About this listen

The battle is won, but the war has just begun. Evil stalks the Island-World as the Marshal of Herimor and his Dragon-slaying hordes put nation after nation to the sword. The haunting cry of the Nurguz summons all Dragonkind to their doom. None can resist.

But Marshal Re'akka and his all-conquering Dragon Assassins are not the only trouble on the horizon. For there is a new Dragoness finding her wings, and she will stop at nothing to protect her loved ones. She is Pip the Pygmy Dragon, jungle-born, survivor of seven years in a zoo. She dreamed of being Human. She is more. Much more.

Now, Dragon wings darken the dawn. Diminutive. Sassy. Full of fire and great heart. As Pip and her friends chart a perilous path in search of the secrets of her heritage, they will find a power of old reborn in the smallest of Dragons.

One will stand against evil. She is Onyx, mighty of paw and deed. She is the laughter of starlight, and she will never allow evil to prevail. Let Dragons thunder! Let the battle commence!

Great story

The story was great, as are all his books but the narrator was not so great.

Spellbinding

One of the most exciting box I have listen to and I'm long time I looked for reasons to go out in the car so I could listen to my book because when I'm home I get too many interruptions

wonderful book, horrible narrator

this book is so amazing. I have reread this book twice now on audible despite how much I hated the narrator. her voice is highly annoying and the way she tried to do different voices it made it worse...she is better off narrating a porn/romantic/seductive novel...not one like this. you should have had an African Narrator read this....or at least the same guy who read the first book. please don't use her again lol.

Secchia’s dragonstories are wonderful.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would certainly recommend the Book. I would also warn my friend from buying this audio book. The story (stories/see the other books in the series) is wonderful, warm, full of humor, social interaction on multiple planes and many discussions on social belonging, what does a society permit et c.
The narrator reduces the story to a sloppy fairytale for three year olds. Shame on the producer. The first series of four books were perfectly narrated. The first in this series was fairly performed. But this, simply terrible. Chose another producer, another performer and redo it.

What did you like best about this story?

The interaction, interplay between the characters. The ambivalence in what is a human identity and what is a dragonish. If you are both, how does that affect your perceptions and actions? The humor, often drastic.

Would you be willing to try another one of Teresa Whittaker’s performances?

Not on your life

Was The Onyx Dragon worth the listening time?

If you so desperatly want the the story that you can survive the inept production and performance.

Any additional comments?

Marc Secchia is an superb author, very much worth reading. He should not suffer the fate of unprofessional productions

The narrator is a bit too high pitched so sometimes it’s hard to hear what was said

I liked that nobodies FIRST name changed but pips last name changed from pip eulialiaotha to random clicking

THE NARRATOR RUINED THIS BOOK

The narrator does not put any effort into the voices for the characters so you don't know who the hell is talking half the time. It seems the narrator is just reading from an encyclopedia with no tones no expressions no excitement in there voice. Which was a big disappointment to me because I love the first book which was narrated by Ryan Prizio who should have gotten 10 Stars not 5 for his performance. Know offense to Teresa Whittaker but please stick to documentaries if you're going to put no effort into it. The last thing I wanted to add to this review is that people love the same narrator for the same book series THAT'S A FACT. What makes people upset having a great narrator and then replacing it with a terrible one. Marc Secchia I loved your book series I can't wait for your next book and thank you for giving us such a great stories.

Terrible

narrator ruined the book, her dragon voices sounded stoned, definitely a wasted credit. Only got through a couple of chapters before I gave up.
