About this listen

The charges: explosive.

Alex Cross has never been on the wrong side of the law - until now. Charged with gunning down followers of his nemesis Gary Soneji in cold blood, Cross is being turned into the poster child for trigger-happy cops who think they're above the law. Cross knows it was self-defense. But will a jury see it that way?

The evidence: shocking.

As Cross fights for his professional life and his freedom, his former partner, John Sampson, brings him a gruesome, titillating video tied to the mysterious disappearances of several young girls. Despite his suspension from the department, Cross can't say no to Sampson. The illicit investigation leads them to the darkest corners of the Internet, where murder is just another form of entertainment.

The People vs. Alex Cross: the trial of the century.

As the prosecution presents its case and the nation watches, even those closest to Cross begin to doubt his innocence. If he can't convince his own family that he didn't pull the trigger with intent to kill, how can he hope to persuade a jury? But even with everything on the line, Cross will do whatever it takes to stop a dangerous criminal...even if he can't save himself.

I wasn't wild about the book right before this one, tho I love the series. At this point, hearing an Alex Cross story feels like listening to old friends talking and having adventures. This one is full of unexpected humor in the scenes with Alex's youngest, Ali, who truly steals the entire last third of the book. The plot is stellar, the villains are sadistic and scary, and the ending is not a cliffhanger thank goodness. The stakes are as high as ever, and the tension is expertly maintained through scene after scene. This one really puts Alex through the wringer, and I blazed through the audio book in about a day. I could not stop listening. It's an aural page-turner, right up there with the best of James Patterson's writing.

Loved it. Ali steals the show

I thought this would be different, but very predictable. I like that it's not a ghost writer.

Way too predictable.

Dr. Cross is set up by the USGovernment to stand trial for murder because he killed two insane followers of a previous victim and wounded another for life. His 9 year old son spent hours and hours proving that he was set up. A great courtroom scene is written, complete with jury body language, etc. Andre Blake did a great job of voicing, particularly Kool Kat, a computer genius. Very enjoyable.

Alex Cross, reputation intact

What I like about Alex Cross books are the stories. There’s always 2 plots going on at the same time. These 2 stories were whoppers! A kidnapping story and a court case that threatens Alex’s life and career. Wow! 2 big nail bitting stories that will keep you listening until you get to the end!
