From number-one New York Times best-selling author Lauren Blakely comes a scintillating forbidden romance between a director and his actress, performed by Sebastian York and Ava Erickson!
The first rule of directing is simple: Never fall for your leading lady.
The second? Don’t let it get to you when she stage-kisses another man.
Looks like I’ve already broken both. Now my jealous, possessive heart wants all of her - the ingenue who’s the star of my next show. I’m captivated by her raw talent, her addictive charm, and her desperate need for me.
Soon we’re staying late in the empty theater, our private rehearsals spiraling into forbidden territory.
Exactly where I can’t go. Because then I’d break the most dangerous rule of all.
Don’t give her your heart.
Because how can I be sure that what she feels is real and not a part of the play?
Author’s Note: The Private Rehearsal was previously titled Playing with Her Heart (that version is no longer available). The Private Rehearsal has been significantly revised and updated, and recorded with all-new narration. I hope you enjoy this new edition of one of my first novels!

Jill is an actress and the roommate of Cat who is the jewelry designer from The Second Chance Plan. She still hasn't had her big break but she keeps trying. We got to know Jill from the other book but we didn't get to delve into her past hurts and understand why she keeps relationships at arms lengths.
Davis Milo is a renown director of the theater and he has been burned by an actor before with his heart so there is no way he is falling for another one but when Jill auditions for his new show he is instantly attracted to her and her innocence. Can they survive the showbiz world and can they both get past their past hurts?
Sebastian York and Ava Erickson are great to listen to in this audio book. Pleasurable from beginning to end.
This book is so well written and I felt as though I was with Jill and Davis on their journey to the heart. I felt Jill's pain and stayed hopeful she could heal and move on. I understood Davis's reluctance to fall for Jill and keep my fingers crossed he would overcome his past and let his heart have what it wanted. I loved it and highly recommend it. We also get to meet other characters that will go on to have their own stories in more great books.

I enjoyed Davis Miles character as he's a man who knows himself, flaws and all. He is a direct type of man, which I like. As a hit movie and theater director, his character is unusual. He's only been deeply involved with one actress by the time he's in his 30s. That's extremely a-typical and sincere he's an attractive man, women would be lining up for him. He doesn't have a major ego. Another oddity for this character.
Jill - I founded her character one that required a suspension of reality. Here's this young high schooler that had dropped her boyfriend. He is obsessed with her and isn't stable. Yet no one noticed?
Jill is such a good actress that no one noticed that something was wrong? She started withdrawing and her family didn't noticed? Her brother who was very close to her didn't notice? I don't buy it.
Then all it takes is a relatively short conversation with Davis and she releases all the guilt? Guilt that was misplaced in the first place as she wasn't responsible for Aaron's actions. (Think I navigated that without giving any spoiler info.)
Supporting characters were great. This is a strength of Lauren Blakey's and her wonderful way of weaving
characters from other books into each other. It makes the listener/reader feel like they're in on part of a secret because they know backstory on these characters.
The story builds on what goes on between these two characters. There's little world building beyond it. A description of an old theater where the musical will be performed. Snippets of information on each of their apartments. Butt even during the gala/event is there much description given except to their clothing.
Davis's friends and Sister get in some brief conversations with him. There same occurs with Jill's brother, roommate Kat, and Shelby from the chorus. Patrick plays an interesting part but the break isn't normal and should ring warning bells. Friends should always be able to be kept. Period. Unless they've committed illegal activities or endangered you or yours.
Bottomline: I love the book because Lauren Blakely just has a way of making HEA good enough to make me smile and feel good. I don't need to like everything. Smiling and feeling good while I a HEA is all I ask for - with good writing and narrators. Lol
Warm tinglies all over!
