About this listen

How far would you go to keep a promise?

Reed Bradford never should have made that promise.

He’d barely survived the first time around, but now she was back, his best friend’s little sister, his one-time neighbor, and the woman that he never should have promised to protect. He never should have done a lot of things, like cross that line, but once he did....

There was no turning back.

Joey Lawson always had a plan, but unfortunately, mostly for her, sometimes those plans backfired. On her. This time would be no different. After the unfortunate incident that she felt was better not to think about, she found herself doing the one thing that she’d never survive.

Falling in love with a Bradford.

Excerpt from The Promise:

“Reed?” she said, licking her lips nervously as the man that was making it difficult to think glared at her.

“Do you know what I did for the past twelve years, Joey?” he asked, which she normally would have taken as a good sign, but since he’d asked that question through clenched teeth and followed that up by placing his hands on the counter on either side of her hips so that he could lean down until they were eye-to-eye and she was left regretting so many things.

She opened her mouth to venture a guess only to quickly rethink that decision and settle for a simple shake of her head, which seemed to appease the large angry man. Nodding in approval, he reached up and gently pushed a strand of her hair back as he leaned in closer so that his mouth was next to her ear.

“For the past twelve years, Joey, I haven’t thought about you,” he whispered seductively, making her swallow nervously.
“I haven’t wondered about you, asked about you, or thought about you, and do you know why?” he asked as she felt his hand close over her hip.

She shook her head only to close her eyes on a shaky breath when she felt his lips brush against her ear. “Because for the first twelve years you made my life a living hell. I worried about you every single day and it only got worse when you left. But when you decided to let me know just how much you hated me, I stopped worrying. I stopped caring. But now...” he said softly, letting his words trail off so that he could brush his lips down the side of her neck, leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake and making her breath catch.

“Do you know what I think about now?” he asked in a seductive whisper that made it difficult to think as he kissed her chin.

“N-no.”

“You,” he said, brushing his lips softly against hers. “I think about you, Joey.”

Entertaining

Love the NFH series, yet it is getting confusing with who is who. I think a family tree would be helpful with this large bunch of cousin's.

You will LOL

This series from R.L. Mathewson is follows each of the Bradford boys. Like with the other books in the series you will find yourself laughing out loud throughout the book. Fran Jules does a great job narrating these.

Needs refocusing

I love this series, however, this last book isn't very good. While the main characters were outlined, there were huge sections in the novel that strayed from the characters and this subtracted from the effectiveness of the entire story.
The plot needs to be refocused and special attention needs to be payed to supporting characters, so they add value instead of cause confusion and distraction from the major plot.

So much auidobook goodness

This is absolutely one of my favorite series to listen to on audiobook. It is just so delicious. There is just something about those Bradford boys and listening to them go out of their mind for a woman they hate/lust/love. It just brings such joy to my life.

In The Promise, it is a mutual Hate/Hate from young childhood to adulthood with Joey and Reed. Joey, a child genius (think young Sheldon but clumsier), is the thorn in Reed's side since she and her brother Jackson moved in next door as kids and Reed decides it's his job to look out for Joey when her brother isn't.

Joey and Reed finally give in to their mutual attraction after they can't fight it anymore. It was hilarious processes at times and others full of sexual tension.

Then add in the Bradford food quirk, so much audiobook goodness going on. I do have an unanswered question, what did Joey do to Reed to make him so angry?

It has something to do with Youtube, but I don't remember if it was featured in another book. Can someone help me out?

I loved listening to The Promise on Audiobook, and I truly hope Mathewson continues to publish them in this format.

It is my favorite, and I look forward to each and every book. I am rating this one 5 Stars, and it was full of so much yummy Bradford Goodness. Thank you, R.L. Mathewson, for the family tree on your website, that was so helpful and just what I need to keep this large family straight.

Could've been better

I did enjoy this book, but not as much as the others. There wasn't enough of the back story explained. Especially since they've known each other for so long.
