Publisher's summary

Former Army Ranger Kris Paronto, a survivor of the 2012 Benghazi siege that was subject of the book and movie 13 Hours, provides powerful motivational tools for surviving and thriving to bring discipline, motivation, success, and peace to listeners' lives.

Thousands of people have heard Kris "Tanto" Paronto speak about his experiences in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. But before he was a security contractor, Tanto was a US Army Ranger from Second Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. Rangers are trained to lead by being pushed to their physical and mental limits so that they can perform against impossible odds in punishing situations. In The Ranger Way, Tanto shares stories from his training experiences that played a role in his team's heroic response in Benghazi. Being a Ranger is, by design, not for everyone, but anyone can use the expectations and techniques of Ranger culture to achieve personal victory.

In The Ranger Way, Tanto explains the importance of demanding excellence when you commit to improving your life. He shows you how to define your mission, set goals that are in alignment with your values, and develop a battle plan that will maximize your chances of success. You will learn why you should never quit and why that is different from never failing. Tanto uses his experiences in basic and Ranger training to explore how to deal with mistakes and disappointment like a leader, accept responsibility, and turn every obstacle into an opportunity for growth. You will learn why being of service to others and being willing to sacrifice will help you succeed and how the power of humility, strength, faith, and brotherhood will sustain you on the road to accomplishing your mission.

very inspiring story

I wish this book had more about the attack on Benghazi and the events surrounding that evening, but it was still a very good story by an army ranger about the training and mind games that took place and how he used that training to overcome those thoughts and feelings and how to apply this in civilian life.

Great mix of motivation and biographical info

What did you love best about The Ranger Way?

The mix of Ranger related motivational material, and how it can be applied by anyone to any aspect of civilian life and the Biography of Kris Paronto was a great combination. You get to hear how he faced adversity small and large. The book was very unique in that way.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the more personal insights that gave you a glimpse into Paronto's personality and life. The details about Ranger school felt like you could probably get them from just about any military or special forces autobiography, but there passages that felt deeply personal that made this book shine at times.

Which scene was your favorite?

The section of the book dealing with his leaving the Army, and subsequent two years working to realign his life and get back into Ranger school.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The narrative style was a combination of instructional and conversational that flowed nicely and was easy to listen to. The overall reading performance was a little unpolished, but I appreciated that it was the author and not necessarily a professional voice talent. That lended some authenticity to the performance that would have been missing otherwise.

Any additional comments?

Excellent book, slightly rough edges on the audible performance...but always authentic and at its best very personal.

Great Life Lessons

Any additional comments?

Certainly a remarkable story of decisive action, bravery and courage. Life lessons and experiences became somewhat repetitious by the end of the book but all valid. Overall a good read and enlightening.

Great lessons but....

The book is valuable, full of life lessons from a man who has been put through the ringer.

My only complaint is the book is missing roughly the last 16 minutes. It just stops.

Even with that it is more than worth getting and listening to.

Empowering

I couldn't wait to finish this book; just so that I could start it again. Imbrace the suck, take accountability, never quit, and have faith in God.

Fellow 2nd Bn Rgr

Insightful, intriguing and informative. Lessons anyone can use to live their lives more productively and with a purpose. It felt as if I was back in RIP, Pre-Ranger, Ranger School and 2nd Bat. I also believe your recollection of Benghazi and feel you told it like it was. You are a true hero!
