About this listen

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning new trilogy praised as “A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand.

After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness - if, indeed, they can be saved.

Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal - and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny - to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all - she will need an army behind her....

Critic reviews

"[Julia] Whelan's ability to portray a large cast of characters, giving each a unique voice, is laudable. Each character is discernible from the rest — no matter their gender, age, or regional accent. Her soothing tone and even pacing keep the lengthy story moving for the listener. Overall, Whelan deftly presents another production worth listening to." —AudioFile Magazine

Love Nora

I love Nora Roberts and really enjoyed Julia Whelan, who made it so easy to keep up with the characters by slightly changing her voice. The end battle lacked a little for me and I would have loved an epilogue that was a year or two or more later but for those who like this genre, I would definitely recommend this series.

Best Trilogy

I’m a true fan of this trilogy. The writing was so descriptive that I felt as if I was right there front row. Not a ton of books, or narrators for that matter, give me that feeling. The action was great, the spells and visions had me looking around skeptically at the grocery store 🤣 wondering who’s light and dark or NM. I couldn’t put the books down (in theory since it’s on audible) and now as in any good book, I’m sad it’s over. Definite must read.

Great, but needed a bigger ending.

It was a great book. But... after a full trilogy, I needed an ending as large as the earth shattering of beginning. Nevertheless, I will not easily forget the series by Nora Roberts, nor the exemplary voices of Julia Whelan.

⚖️ Plot: There was a lot of promise for a sensational last book, but I think too much of the story went into building armies and gathering intel. I didn’t feel there was enough to bond with to make it a truly unforgettable book.

🗺 World: There was a lot of description of the settings which really helped put myself directly in the scenes. I was very much involved in the action and story because of this.

💑 Characters: This was where I think Robert could have slowed down and absorbed us into the lives of the characters. And for a relationship that was written and meant to be since almost the birth of time, Fallon and my boy Duncan should have had the time to rattle the stars together. Perhaps in another book to come.

Love any book read by Julian Wayland

Great trilogy and a fun listen on all three books. Last book was my favorite.

Good finish...

This was a good ending to the trilogy, drama, romance, the light , the dark. There are a lot of parallels to today’s society. Keeps you engaged to the end!

Amazing!

This was an amazing ending to an epic adventure! I loved this battle and how the characters constantly sought to remember and embrace what they were fighting for. L for L forever!

Beautiful ending

I loved every moment of this book, because I got one more chance to experience the lives of these amazing characters. I’m sorry there won’t be any more stories about Fallon, Duncan, and the rest of the gang. Their world draws me in and allows me to escape for awhile.

Brava, Nora Roberts❤️

Chronicles of The One is her best offering yet

Loved Nora Roberts trilogy Chronicles of The One. Reminiscent of Steven Kings The Stand. A classic story of good against evil. Julia Whelan’s dramatic reading made the story really come alive. This was my first audio book but will not be my last.

Great conclusion

Fulsome conclusion to a dynamic series. Detail rich with love, drama, heartbreak. Definitely need to read the first two first.
