A fun beach read

Fun story well told by a narrator who captured the accents and voices well (I'm from Franklin County and have also lived in Roanoke, Virginia, where the story unfolds)

Welcome back MacKenzie August!

This is the second book is this fun new series. MacKenzie is a little bit like Spenser, a little bit like Chuck Norris, and and an all around good guy trying to live a life of honor. This book, like the first is full of witty one liners and MacKenzie is a character you will root for. Plus, some of the secondary characters Mackenzie deals with are both shady and goofy enough to be part of a Carl Hiaasen book. This time, Mackenzie takes a job in part because of his feelings for Ronnie Summers, a woman he is clearly in love with, but who just may be more screwed up than a seven layer burrito from Taco Bell. She's an accomplished, bright professional with a complicated personal life and parental issues. Scott Ellis does a superb job with the narration. My fingers are crossed that Audible will give us the other books in the series and that Mr. Ellis will return to read them.

Good job as a stand-alone

Jumped in to the series with the second book. However I didn’t feel lost with what was going on and was able to pick the trail pretty easily which I think is a sign of a strong writer. And it difficult to do

very good guy.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are interesting and some are funny. Alan Lee's stories are very enjoyable. It is a nice change from some of the blood and gore of some mysteries I've read. Always a good ending.

Funny and suspenseful

Mackenzie is funny! And Scott Ellis delivers his zingers with perfect timing and distinctive voicing. Great characters and a suspenseful mystery make this a wonderfully entertaining listen.

Never a dull moment!

I listened to book one in this series and could not wait for the release of book two. Mackenzie August is my favorite leading male character, bar none!!!

This listen offers up another fantastic mystery with Mac's detective skills called upon to solve said mystery. We get to see many of the characters from book one, especially Ronnie. Since I listened to book one, I knew how Mac and Ronnie met and what made their dynamic so unique. Their history wasn't explained much in book two and I can't help but feel sorry for anyone who missed the first book. (Ronnie is not going anywhere so if you missed book one, I encourage you to go back and get the full monty on the special.)

Mac has a sense of humor and an extensive vocabulary so his dialogue was always a treat. The narrator nailed it!! Ellis didn't stop there. There were a variety of characters and dialects and they all came to life.

This was a complete story but I hope there is a book two on the horizon. I need more Mackenzie August!!
