Publisher's summary

The Monkeewrench crew returns in a twisty, heart-stopping new thriller.

The peaceful Christmas season in Minneapolis is shattered when two friends, Chuck Spencer and Wally Luntz, scheduled to meet in person for the first time, are murdered on the same night, two hours and several miles apart, dramatically concluding winter vacation for homicide detectives Leo Magozzi and Gino Rolseth.

An hour north of Minneapolis, Lydia Ascher comes home to find two dead men in her basement. When Leo and Gino discover her connection to their current cases, they suspect that she is a target, too. The same day, an elderly, terminally ill man is kidnapped from his home, an Alzheimer's patient goes missing from his care facility, and a baffling link among all the crimes emerges.

This series of inexplicable events sends the detectives sixty years into the past to search for answers - and straight to Grace MacBride's Monkeewrench, a group of eccentric computer geniuses who devote their time and resources to helping the cops solve the unsolvable. What they find is an unimaginable horror - a dormant Armageddon that might be activated at any moment unless Grace and her partners Annie, Roadrunner, and Harley Davidson, along with Leo and Gino, can find a way to stop it.

Great story, poor narrator.

Wish I had read this book instead of listening to it. He used such a high pitched grating voice, I had to slow it down to tolerate listening to him. Good story, with hope for more.

SO WHY NO AUDIBLE BOOK 8?

Any additional comments?

I don't really care about the narrator in this book. I survived. What I don't understand is why NOTHING STAYS BURIED book 8 in the Monkeewrench series is not out on Audible or through Brilliance.

I have sent several emails to Audible and amazon. No response.

I was looking forward to Book 8 but it has been out since August 1, 2017.

No response. No Audible book. Nada.

Great story as usual.

Liked the story. Great to see where the group is going.
The male voices all sounded similar and at times had inappropriate accents. The female voices were all very soft and very sweet. The narrator was frequently the voice of a character.

Love this series.

The shift in narrator style was a little jarring, but still enjoyed it immensely.

Loved the story; hated the narration

Would you listen to The Sixth Idea again? Why?

No. I have enjoyed all of the Monkeewrench books and always eagerly await the next. As far as I can recall, this is the first I have listened to as an audiobook and it will be the last, if subsequent titles (I hope there will be more!) are narrated by this same narrator. The story is set in Minnesota, yet the characters sounded like some kind of amalgam of Jersey and Down South good-ole-boys. Gino and Leo were voiced as if they were buffoonish, cartoon cops and, in general, the narration was very annoying and detracted from the story.

How could the performance have been better?

A narrator who actually knows how Minnesotans speak and who treats the characters with more respect would be a big improvement.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, I just thoroughly enjoy all of the Monkeewrench stories; they're always well-thought-out and hold my attention. I would have enjoyed it more had I read it for myself, rather than listening to it on tape, but it was good entertainment on a long drive.

Different reader

After listening to all the Monkeewrench books to this point with the same reader it was very hard to listen to a different reader. Non of the characters sounded like themselves. Why would they do that???

Love the series, but this narrator, not so much

Another great mystery with Gino, Leo and the Monkeewrench crew! A group of scientists from the past and their descendants factor into this mystery.

Loved the ending with Leo and Grace!

I didn't care for Peter Berkrot's narration much especially since he made Gino and Leo sound like Joe Pesci in My Cousin Vinny, and I couldn't tell which character was speaking half the time. Yeah, not a fan. Thankfully he doesn't narrate any of the other books.

On to the next one!

Distracted by the reader.

The Minnesota-placed book was read as if was a cartoon set in New York City. very disappointing.

Read the book, the narration is Not up to Par!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The narrator was not what was needed with this story. All of the characters sounded the same, all high pitched, and not anything I could listen to for any length of time.

What did you like best about this story?

PJ Tracy always writes clever stories, and this was as good as the last.

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Berkrot’s performances?

Not for this author..

Could you see The Sixth Idea being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I'd like any of this series in a movie, no clue as to who would play the characters.
