Publisher's summary

The Soulful Art of Persuasion is a revolutionary guide to becoming a master influencer in an age of distrust through the cultivation of character-building habits that are essential to both personal growth and sustained business success. This isn’t a book full of tips and life-hacks. Instead, The Soulful Art of Persuasion will develop the habits that others want to be influenced by. This audiobook is based on a radical idea: Persuasion isn’t about facts and argument. It’s all about personal character.

Jason Harris, CEO of the powerhouse creative agency, Mekanism, argues that genuine persuasion in the 21st century is about developing character rather than relying on the easy tactics of flattery, manipulation, and short-term gains. It is about engaging rather than insisting; it is about developing empathy and communicating your values. Based on his experience in and out of the boardroom, and drawing on the latest in-depth research on trust, influence, and habit formation, Harris shows that being persuasive in a culture plagued by deception means rejecting the ethos of the quick and embracing the commitment of putting your truest self forward and playing the long game.

Through instructive and entertaining stories, Harris lays out the 11 habits that will guide listeners to become authentically persuasive, including

  • Earning respect through collaboration
  • Becoming the person others want to be around
  • Practicing generosity through gestures big and small

Persuasion today is about personal excellence, sharing the stage, and respecting other people’s motivations. In The Soulful Art of Persuasion, Jason Harris shows us the way.

The four principles and 11 habits discussed in The Soulful Persuasion are included in the bonus PDF that accompanies this audiobook.

Not what I expected, much deeper and better!

Jason Harris is a great storyteller and authentic purpose and values driven leader, author, and in this case, educator on how “soulful” intentionality provides an authentic and transparent way to influence or persuade, but not in a pushy, used car salesman way where some have relied on shady techniques to manipulate and “sell” vs what Jason teaches us is a better way to honestly setting the stage and letting the individual decide for themselves... way to go Jason! Congrats on a great book, well done!

My kind of approach

This is how I like to operate. Was a great book to reinforce me into doing the right thing in business and in life. Being a kid of a little before Josh's time I really loved all the reference's to icons we grew up with. I will continue to check back with this book. Hope more embrace its message.

Very Replayable

I repeated this book by Jason Harris about 3 times in a row after the first play through. There's a ton of great info. I would highly recommend actively listening and annotating some of the tips and ideas.

Great audiobook; every leader should read it

Practical, insightful, and straightforward. Every leader or manager should study it and practice the lessons, not just to be persuasive but to be a better person.

Nothing new

Decent content, but mostly a retelling of existing concepts and thinking. kind of a waste of time if you read this kind of stuff a lot. If it's your first book of this type, might be okay, but I'd start with How to Win Friends and Influence People way before this book.

Democrat Talking Points

Bought the book based on hearing a good interview with the author. Some good tips, figured it might be worth it.

Those tips are given in the first few chapters. The rest of the book is moral grandstanding which attempts to tie persuasiveness to ethics, which happen to align perfectly with progressive Democrat talking points.

It is not a book about improving your communication. The few tips given are along the lines of “be confident”. Like a golfer saying “don’t think so much” or a designer saying “keep it simple”. There is no “how to” here.

This book literally talks more about politics than communication, and the author spends multiple chapters name-dropping and on the social change he thinks he’s inspired. It ends by attempting to tie liberal activism directly to your ability to be persuasive. I laughed out loud and had to then stop.

Obviously, this book is not persuasive. I regret this purchase.
