About this listen

The last storm brought death and famine to the rural town at the heart of this story. Now another storm is brewing, and many believe it to be the work of spiteful Old Lady Deakins. In this dark and unpredictable tale, the woman assumed to be responsible for the storm might be the only one able to lift the town's curse.

Great Ending!

This is a concise yet compelling story with great characters and a deliciously ambiguous and macabre ending! Certainly worth a listen!

thought 9 minutes was a typo

nine minutes is way too short! Why bother? Subject matter interesting enough to catch my attention.

A kids point of view on storms.

This (short) Is told from a kids point of view. It was interesting to hear what they see, feel or hear during a storm. Like a tornado swirls dirt, dust and debris around kids see reality and fantasy swirl around as well.

Very short!

And well done-took me right into the storm. End could have been more contemporary, less blame a woman...

Nice little short story

Nothing fancy but a good little short story. I wonder if it's a teaser to a full book?

It was a dark and stormy night.

“Good writing is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration,” is a quote, I think, from Louise Brooks. This author definitely put the full effort into honing this short story into an engaging dark tale. It is brought to life with fabulous down-south narration and builds to a phenomenal ending.

No sex and profanity, but there are themes of witchcraft, superstition, and violence. I’d let my teenagers listen to this, and maybe even down to age 10, if we use it to have a book club conversation about it afterwords.

Jacob York is a superb narrator!

Excellent short story. I was totally WOWED by how well Kemp nailed the dialect. That was excellent. And the narration was absolutely perfect. Additionally, the subtle difference between the "about" of the story and the underlying deeper meaning was handled beautifully. I loved everything about it - it's just that simple!

This story was very, very short. I would like to hear more. It was well written and narrated.
