About this listen

When Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to help Count Dracula with the purchase of a house in London, he soon discovers some strange and shocking things about his new client. And then some strange things start happening back in England: an apparently unmanned ship is wrecked off the coast of Whitby, a young woman discovers strange puncture marks on her neck and the inmate of a lunatic asylum raves about the 'Master' and his imminent arrival.

First published in 1897, Dracula is an epistolary novel, meaning that the narrative is related through letters, diary entries and newspaper articles. The story is brought to life in this Audible production by a group of actors that you might recognise from TV and film: Himesh Patel (Yesterday), Patricia Allison (Sex Education), Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), Theo James (Divergent series) and Jason Watkins (The Crown).

This was beautifully performed. Having read the novel many years ago, this reacquaintance was a joyful one! So glad it’s in my audible library. Give this one a listen.

Fantastic.

In fact, the movie is garbage compared to this book. I liked it, more poetic than action, but with great sentiment.

Far better than the movie

This book could have been cut in half and you'd still get the point. I really loved the first several hours, but the the last 6 or so hours were dragging on and repetitive. I lost interest and found it to be boring by this point. However, the story as a whole ended up being cool and I liked to hear about the true Dracula. The narration was good as well.

Interesting Story, but was dragging on for ages

…both in story and performance! I was “forced” to read this in high school fifty years ago and relied on Cliffs Notes to pass the test. Now I can’t wait to experience the other classics that I groaned about so long ago— maybe Great Expectations? The Odyssey? “Brothers Karamazov? Any other suggestions??

A Great Experience…

I loved to have this on the background. Even though I’ve read this book multiple times, I love the accents, ease of the chapter changes. Excellent.

excellent

A wonderful read, I enjoyed the Journal style writing more than i thought i would. The performance from the cast was phenomenal. the only problem was a personal one, at time it was slightly hard to continue because of the old language, but I know that’s because of the time. Still so good

Truly a classic

The readers all did a great job and the story was good. It was not what I was expecting but I honestly don’t have much Dracula knowledge outside of the Castelvenia franchise. This was good a good read. It was a little slow at parts but I liked the journal entry style is was written in.

Great performance
