About this listen

From the author of A Month of Summer, an inspiring new novel in the Blue Sky Hill series about one woman's effect on a struggling Dallas neighborhood.

With her adopted son missing and the rest of her family increasingly estranged, Sandra Kaye Darden is drawn to the little pink house where her Uncle Poppy once provided security. What begins for Sandra as a simple painting project, meant to prepare the house for sale, becomes a secret venture that eventually changes everything.

Cass Blue is having trouble keeping food on the table since she ditched foster care. When Sandra Kaye shows up with lunch one day, Cass has no way of knowing that the meeting will lead to the creation of a place of refuge that could reunite a divided community.

In this moving story of second chances, two unlikely allies realize their ability to make a difference...and the power of what becomes known as the Summer Kitchen to nourish the soul.

I wish Audible would specify the genres as Christian. It was your typical Lisa Wingate series novel, inspiring, enjoyable and good endings. The racial stereotyping was a bit much for 2020 but maybe was acceptable when the book was written. Lisa W is great describing scenes and feelings. I do enjoy that

I thoroughly enjoyed this book even though it left me in tears! But happy tears. What a story line that kept me up for hours as I had such a a hard time finding a stopping place. No matter what your life is like it made you appreciate all the small things and realize things could be a whole lot different it for the grace of God. Wonderful story.

I guess I’m hooked on Lisa Wingate’s novels. This one started slow however as always the characters developed and pulled me into their lives.

I’m also a sucker for happy endings.

I remember finishing a month of summers and wishing there was more. Only to realize months later, there was more. Although the characters from that story only slightly touch in, they have a big presence in the story and its just perfect. This book shows how people no matter what they show on the outside have so much more going on, on the inside. Cass Sally Blue is so fierce and protective of a child she barely knew, because her mom taught her how to be strong, loving and forgiving. This book is my favorite one yet.

One of her best works yet.

I expected a sweet nostalgic story, but it was so much more! I really didn’t expect it to touch my heart like it did! The main character’s life parallels s a similar place in my own life, and really encourages me to embrace the next chapter in my life’s journey with confidence! Very well written! I like the way this author doesn’t sugar coat dire situations, yet doesn’t feel the need to drag language into the gutter to get a point across!

Not what I expected. At. All.!!
