Publisher's summary

Pushed to his breaking point and accused of murder, retired NYPD detective Dave Gurney must face his greatest adversary yet to solve a mystery that is quickly tearing his world apart

Tennis bad boy Zeko Slade is serving twenty years for the grisly murder of small-time criminal Lenny Lerman. The facts of the case—and Slade’s checkered past—seem indisputable. What begins as a cursory review of the case as a favor to Dave Gurney’s wife’s friend soon spirals into something much more complicated. When Gurney’s involvement threatens to expose a viper’s nest of corruption, he finds himself framed for murder and pursued by a sensational media, a ruthless district attorney, and a coldblooded killer.

As he evades the law and attempts to solve the case to salvage his reputation, Gurney grapples with the realization that his unshakable need for police work is costing him more than the brilliant detective ever suspected. The Viper is the most shocking and riveting chapter yet in the internationally bestselling Dave Gurney series.

Intriguing Plot

Loved the thought process of the central character. Not fond of external sub character interference. Mainly the spouse; too negative for this type of series.

Going a bit dark

Good story and good performance. A bit darker then the other books. Maybe too much.

Not this time!

I love the Dave Gurney series but this one is drop dead boring and the narrator sounds as if he is reading to simpletons. Sorry but I had to return it

This was a DNF

Incredibly boring, without tension or the introduction of new or interesting characters, I could not get into this book. It desperately needed another edit. Save your credit. It's terrible writing. And I like this author.

A sad chapter in the life of Dave Gurney

I normally enjoy these books very much and my favorite part is the dynamic between they’ve got any of the detective and Dave gurney the man who lives at Walnut Crossing and his wife and the alpacas- but this one was very sad and I didn’t like the ending. I hope that Dave gurney gets a better story in the next book
And also, I absolutely did not like that Jack Hardwick never recovered I love him!
