About this listen

Being entered into the Rising Queen Trial is equivalent to death. If I win, I’ll marry my enemy. If I lose, I’ll marry another fae of the king’s choosing. Either way, my freedom is lost unless I find a way to escape. Intent on fleeing, I train my new affinities and learn what’s needed to survive while pretending to vie for the throne.

With my sister at my side, I know we’ll find a way to prevent my enslavement to the Court of Winter. But the Crown Prince has other ideas. As Prince Norivun’s interest in me grows, I’m determined to avoid his allure, until he reveals sides of himself he’d kept hidden—sides that make me want to succumb to the innate need burning inside me. Now that his secrets are laid bare, devastating consequences loom for me and him. Consequences that not even the powerful prince could have foreseen.

Love

Love this series!!!! Amazing characters and story lines. The authors description makes you feel like you are there :)
The only thing I wish, there was a male speaking for the princes parts/ but the girl narrator does do a great job!

I’m torn…

Firstly, I like the story and the characters…most of the time. Yes, the main female character is supposed a strong independent character, but sometimes, a lot of times, she just comes off as wishy-washy. A woman can be strong in character, but show reasonableness and understanding. Our girl crosses the line into being pig headed, self-absorbed and clueless. She takes the sacrifices her mate makes for her, like him not pushing her in situations of revealing their bond, as an act of him trying to make her look stupid and the last to know. And yes, him keeping VERY RELEVANT things from her is asinine…( but I guess that’s part of drawing out the angst or whatever). However, there was so many times in the last two books that I seriously yelled out loud, “ OMG! Shut up or figure it out or reveal the truth already!” She said one phrase over and over and over and over again. (IYKYK) I’m like dang! If you really feel that way, freaking stick with it until the truth is revealed, which should have happened in book one because she was getting on my nerves with the back and forth way back then. Dragging it out all the way through book two was freaking torturous! Lastly, I’m glad she doesn’t want anyone to be killed, however, her reaction to the Prince’s in the moment-protective-mate- instincts when a repeat abuser tries to violate her and crush her windpipe and kill her, is too much. She wants to think he’s an evil, dark, monster for wanting to kill the man that tried to do those things to her. I’m like what?!!!?? What should happen? If he didn’t try to protect her, stand by her, avenge her, what kind of mate would he be? He’d be weak and unworthy in the Faery/Protective Mates Fantasy World. Ugghhhhh! Ok. I’m still gonna read the next two books, because I’m not a quitter, I like the story, mostly, and MAINLY because I won’t hear her say, “He murdered my family; You murdered my family”, ever again. Cool. I’m done.

Krista Street is a word master

I love the enemy to lover energy and how the female lead is so strong. Do I wish she would of known earlier, yes, but the lead up to the twos fate is amazing

Amazing story and compelling voice actor

I absolutely love this story and I love the voice actors performance as well. I wish that Norvan had his own voice actor but I still think it was very well done. I will continue listening to this book on audible as long as the voice actor stays the same :) this book gives me acotar/fourth wing vibes and I'm here for it.

Very captivating

The story is exceptionally well written, and I can’t seem to get enough of it. The characters are so vivid, and the plot is incredibly engaging. Every twist and turn keeps me hooked, and I find myself eagerly anticipating what will happen next.

Love this series

I was in a funk not knowing what to read next after I finishing iron flame and Acotor series. But this series is definitely up there with the well known series.

An addictive tale

A great conflicted protagonist with strength, complexity yet relatable. A romance full of fairy court intrigue.
