Publisher's summary

The time for tournaments and scholarship has come to an end.

The world moves and it waits for none. Assigned by the Duchess to investigate the strange foreigners who were encountering in dialogue with the tribes of the mountains, Ling Qi, Cai Renxiang, and their companions must take a perilous journey through the wild mountains, and see what can be made of their intentions. A difficult and none-too-popular task, for the people of the Empire have only ever met barbarians with war. Or have they, history is not as simple as it seems.

Inspired by ancient folklore, modern martial arts, and Xianxia, Destiny Cycle cultivates a world both fantastic in setting yet familiar in the humanity of its inhabitants. Don't miss this third installment of one of the most popular titles on Royal Roads—with over 7 million reads—elegantly performed by Earphones Award-winning voice artist Natalie Naudus.

So good but too short!

Things happen in this book, but it feels deeply compressed and very drawn out simultaneously. I’m hoping the next book comes fast because I honestly feel like we got very little of the usual cultivation, and a lot more the rest of the series, which is great for one book, but hoping I get my fix of the more normal stuff soon.

I’ve waited a year

I’ve waited a year for this book , I wish it was longer like the previous book I believe it was 5 or 6 hours longer than this book . I wish the entire book wasn’t focused on this journey . I wanted more time with the other characters in the book , this is probably my least favorite book in the series , I hope another one comes out soon .

Another good installment but it leaves you wanting more.

First of all this series is great. If you haven’t started listening to it and you enjoy the cultivation genre, start listening to it. Natalie Nadus does a fantastic job Narrating Yrsilars engaging characters and well written prose. This is the slice of life novel at its best. The plot moves the world is built, but ultimately the emphasis always on the characters their lives, motivations and struggles and Yrsilar has a knack for carving out little arcs and stories for even the minor characters, it all weaves together to make a sum that is more then it’s parts.

With that said I want more. The written version of these books is far ahead of the audio but I enjoy the narration and don’t want to spoil it for myself so I wait and then binge every release now I have to wait another 6 months to a year for the next installment. That’s my only complaint.

Excellent continuation of the series!

This is a very well written and narrated series and I look forward to the next release. Of note is the depth of character growth and interrelationships as the main characters evolve in power, duties and responsibilities, not only in the realm but in home life as well. The interactions between spirits, mortals, and the ‘gods’ is also well presented! Nice work!

Love this series!

My only complaint it that it wasn't longer!

Not much conflict in this one, but that's fine. The exploration of new locations, and learning more of the different "barbarian" tribes was interesting. I am sad that we wont be seeing much of the sect anymore, and we didn't see much if anything from most of her friends outside of her expeditions group.
