Publisher's summary

The thrilling follow-up to Crown of Lies from New York Times best-selling author Pepper Winters.

Two years

Since my life changed for the second time and not necessarily for the better. Two years since I traded prison bars for streets and hunted a runaway who I'd met in an alley.

Two days

Since I forgot how to lie, woke to fists, and chased after the girl who'd been stolen from me.

Two hours

To save her, rescue her, keep my lies intact. She looks at me full of hate. I look at her full of confession.

Two minutes

For our relationship to switch from mutual dislike to floundering with unknowns. I've hurt her. Now, she's hurt me. I guess we're even.

Two seconds

For her to listen, to see, to finally know who I am. The answer comes with hardship. The answer isn't what she wants to hear.

Two breaths

For me to walk out the door.

Two heartbeats

For it all to be over.

Great ending!

such a sweet ending to this story. I love Pepper Winters writing! She pulls me heart and soul into her books. I am so glad to finally get the answer about Penn. The way he acts makes so much sense now. It took me until this before before I fell in love will him. He had a rough life but is able to overcome everything with Larry and Elle. Elle is an amazing character that you can't help but love. She fights so hard for Penn. I love this book!

Kylie C. Stewart and Eric Rolon did an amazing job narrating. I love them together. They brought such emotion and depth to the story.

Fantastic ending!

After the ending of book one, I quickly downloaded this and got started. I am so invested in Penn and Elle that I had to see what was going to happen. This second part of the The Truth and Lies Duet is told much more from Penn's point of view, and I loved getting to hear from him. Broken, but seeing the light that Elle brings him, he is in love. But when a situation that puts her life in danger arises, he does whatever it takes to keep her safe. The results are not ideal, and times get rough. Separated, but fighting to be together, this couple has been through the ringer. With fantastic support like Larry though, they know they are not alone. Obstacles need to be overcome, but the passion is still there. I absolutely love this couple. I was frustrated with both at times. Elle finally wises up though(you will know what I mean) and her support is steadfast. I love the twists with Gio and the police chief. Unpredictable, passionate, thrilling, deception, craziness, Winters brings it all together and mends our hearts in the end as she does so well. This is a fantastic duet, and if you enjoy romantic suspense, you will definitely want to pick this up!

Kylie Stewart and Eric Rolon finish out the series with their incredible chemistry and emotional performances. These two found the essence of their characters and created incredible feelings all throughout the narration. It could not have been better.

The chocolate kisser!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 😤😥😊🤩😘

The heroine: Noelle “Elle” Charlston - current CEO of ‘Belle Elle’, the worlds largest department store that has been in her family for generations. She is a young CEO who worked with her father at Belle Elle since she was young. She grew up in a gilded cage, at work and at home. She escaped her cage once at nineteen and has had her head to the grindstone ever since.

The Hero: Penn Everett - for years he planned to help homeless people transition from the streets back to productive lives. He is on the verge of bringing that to fruition when Elle ran out on the gala they were attending. He had originally planned to have a short relationship with her, use her and leave her, though everything changed that night.

The Story: Elle has had her fill of men who want to use her to get her money, position and power. She has been taken, mistreated and lied to. She is through with men and just wants to get back to her life. Though nothing ever goes like she would expect.

Like Crown of Lies, this book was told in dual points of view and with duet narration where the male narrator did all the male voices and the female narrator did all the female voices no matter who’s POV the chapter was in. I love this type of narration. Kylie C. Stewart and Eric Rolon did a great job and I really like their styles. Kylie’s voice is strong but soft and Eric has a deep but not overpowering voice and he was believable as a businessman that came from the streets.

I really enjoyed this one, the storylines were completely original and unpredictable and I listened intently to the whole book in one sitting. It was fantastic and went to places I couldn’t have imagined. I felt for both Elle and Penn and what they went through to be together. I was also as frustrated as they were when things didn’t go the way I hoped for them. This duet was a real winner. I will definitely listen to this again at some point.

Good story, pronunciation incredibly bad...

It seems like every other word over 1 syllable was mis-pronounced - including larynx, for goodness sake! Please, someone listen through these publications before letting them go - embarrassed on behalf of the narrators and really distracting to listen to.

I enjoyed it

Was not as good as the first but still enjoyable. Loved the narration. Narration like this really makes listening a pleasure. Wish audible and tantor would do this with their books. This is what makes audible books so enjoyable

Five Star, Must read!!!! This is book 2 start w #1

I actually had the first book in my library for months and couldn't get past the violent scene in the first or second chapter. One day i had no power, no service, and only a few books to choose from so I decided to tough it thru to see if it got better and I'm so glad I did! This duet is now at the top of my favorites list for sure!!!
