Publisher's summary

The very last thing U.S. Marshal Eoghan Sapphire wants is a new partnership. Worse yet, the transfer from Lexington, Kentucky is a civilian. That means it’ll be Eoghan’s responsibility to break him into the I.S.R. and the unique way their particular U.S. Marshals Service unit operates. He decides being a jerk to him and keeping him at arm’s length just might be the way to handle things…until he meets him.

Aristotle Brown isn’t like anyone Eoghan’s ever known before. He’s polite, willing to learn, and most of all, devastatingly handsome. Eoghan’s actually happy they’re thrown into a dangerous situation with a WITSEC protectee the first day his brand-new partner is on the job. Dealing with this particular man will let Eoghan know what Ari Brown’s made of. Will he break under pressure?

Dealing with humans is standard everyday stuff in the U.S. Marshals Service but other non-human species like shifters, other paranormals, and aliens from distant star systems…well, that’s where things promise to get downright interesting. Their second day on the job is no different. And he’s not prepared for Ari’s cool-headed composure when he comes face to face with an example of everything the I.S.R. deals with every day.

To top it all off, the marshal sent to back the two men up when things get dicey in Griffith Park isn’t as reliable as Eoghan had hoped. The impulses of the guy nearly get them all killed but fortunately, Ari performs like a dream, helping extract everyone when things go from bad to worse. Eoghan is sure of a couple of things…acting as this man’s training officer isn’t going to be such a struggle after all, and keeping his hands off him is going to be the hardest part about this assignment.

Amazing!

I loved Eoghan and Ari! I have read all of the series that came immediately before this so I had to read/listen to this one as well. What a fun story! I love the whole idea of this series and these two characters kept me on the edge of my seat. Perfect amounts of humor and suspense as well as the growing relationship between our two intrepid heroes. I can’t wait to see how this series continues. And the narrators were amazing. I like how this is being set up.

I loved this book

Tooth And Nail is the first book in the new U.S. Marshals I.S.R. (Interspecies Response) series. This book is about U.S. Marshals Eoghan Sapphire and Aristotle Brown. I loved the characters and the way they grew in the story. I loved all the twists and turns this story took. It has plenty of action, plot, and steam. I enjoyed all the side characters too. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series. I really want to know what comes next. Patricia Logan is an amazing author and I look forward to the next book in the series. If you get the audio narration, Kevin Earlywine and Declan Winters do a wonderful job of narrating this series. They make the changes in characters seamlessly. I can't wait to listen to the next book. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

This is NOT Duel or Duet narration

This book is read by the narrator Kevin Earlywine upto the last Chapter when the POV changes to the other character which is then read by Declan Winters.

Extracted from the Authors Note on the Audio Version
... While deciding on how I wanted U.S. Marshals I.S.R. (Interspecies Response) narrated, I was listening to a few dual narrations and liked the concept which I hadn't done in any past books. The problem was the way the two characters traded off, chapter by chapter. I know a lot of listeners love it but to me, that felt choppy. But, when I met Kevin Earlywine and Declan Winters at GRL last year, I suddenly knew what I wanted to do.

In this series, one narrator will voice a character throughout the whole book in his point of view until the end when the other character and narrator will jump in. The next book will alternate, narrated in the other character's point of view until the end and so on. I thought it might be different and fun for my readers.

I'd now like to introduce you to my narrator partners in this endeavour. Kevin Earlywine will be telling Tooth and Nail as Eoghan Sapphire, and Declan Winters will be joining him in Chapter Twenty-One as Aristotle Brown. ...

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, interesting and entertaining story.
I was delightfully entertained with this new spin on a U.S. Marshals team investigating all things alien. There's a lot going on, so the pace is good, and there are some rather amusing scenes reminiscent of the "Men in Black" type of humor.

🎧 Narrator comment: Despite Kevin Earlywine's significant audio catalog, he's a "new to me" narrator and I enjoyed his performance of Tooth and Nail, he has good cadence, inflections and intonations, a good variety of character voices, and his performance bought the characters to life. I did nudge the speed up to 1.1x (which I hate doing) as I found the 1.0 speed just a little slow for the constant action and "on the go" feel of the story.

Overall an entertaining story and a good performance - I look forward to the rest of the series!

New take on the paranormal!

I love Patricia Logan she’s a no think click author for me and I haven’t been disappointed yet! This book felt fresh and had new concepts to a category that can be boring and over done if not well written.
The only thing I wasn’t happy about is it’s advertised with 2 narrators when in truth it’s really only one…Declan Winters only narrates the epilogue and a bonus exert for the next book…it is clearing shown that one narrator reads chapters 1-20 but you don’t know that until after you purchase and download the book. That being said I enjoyed this listen and can’t wait until that next one.

Review for Interspecies Response -1 Tooth and Nail

Review for Interspecies Response-1

I loved this book! I couldn't stop listening to this fantastic, wonderful story. I fell in love with a US Marshal Police story a few years back, and now I can't get enough of them. I have read Patricia Logan for a while now and for every book I think, "Wow, her books can't get any better, can they?" But guess what, the DO! I loved Eoghan Sapphire & Aristotle Brown. The heat between them almost burned my iPad, lol. The way she wrote how different they were from each other was very well written. I loved that Patricia went to Paranormal with this marshal story. It gave it an extra exciting touch to this book. The added aspect of non-human species took this story to the next level of writing for Patricia, so thank you so much for this gem. I can't wait for the next
book in this series.

I received this audio book for a truthful review

Fantastic book, bad audio

Book: Great book! The world building is fantastic. I really enjoyed both main characters, although Ari got on my nerves a few times. Nothing too bad. My favorite is Bear!! I will be reading the next book in the series.

Audio: I really did not like the main narrator. He had a way of inflecting certain words (‘said’, ‘asked’) where it sounds like he’s insinuating they didn’t mean it. It was annoying and distracting. I will not do audio anymore on this series, and will avoid that narrator.

a fun and crazy ride!

Alien bats! Vampires! Space faeries! Honeybee shifters!

These are just some of the crazy paranormal and sci-fi characters who feature in this new series of Patricia Logan. As usual, and what I enjoy with Logan’s books is a series that revolves around the same couple so we get to see them deepen their connection as they continue to kick bad guy butt out in the field! Aristotle (Ari) Brown is a familiar face - we were introduced to him in the FBI Files series - and he has transferred from Kentucky to LA and been introduced to a world he had no idea existed before his first day with the ISR.

There is a LOT going on in this book as Logan sets the stage which left me a little whiplashed at times. I feel the book could have done with less or been longer so I had more time to get acquainted with this world. It definitely interested me however and I will be jumping into the next one to enjoy the journey Logan is going to take us on. I love how this carefully concealed paranormal world is set alongside Logan’s other series. I would freak out so badly if Jarrett and Thayne were introduced to the knowledge of all the craziness happening around them they have absolutely zero idea about. I can only imagine what new wild things Jarrett would get himself into.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this audiobook.

interesting story, stiff narration

I liked the book well enough that I listened all the way through and plan to follow the coming books in the series once they come out. the characters seem fine, the lore/world-building is interesting, and there’s enough plot intrigue to keep up pace and momentum as you read

the narrator is stiff in his performance. he has no trouble differentiating character voices, but there is a baseline monotony to everything. like there is some emotion and affect, but it’s very constrained. the reading pace is slow as well. similar to another reviewer, I found 1.1x to be the right speed

while on the whole the writing is ok, the whole “follow orders or else” bit in the middle seemed really shallow and contrived. while ari had the right reaction to the orders, it made no sense why eoghan would be so lackadaisical in his response from his boss to basically give the good guy directly back to the bad guy without a second thought. and then having to sell the boss on doing the right thing. it shouldn’t have needed to be a sell.

it’s possible the narrator’s performance of eoghan’s lines during that part may have diminished the intended effect. I could see doing the lines with a cynical and irritated tone being more believable from eoghan.

anyways give the book a read. it’s good enough and just know to ignore some of the annoying parts to get to the rest
