About this listen

Lucas Barnett and Gabriel Stewart didn't have it easy as kids. They were only trying to deal with bad situations at home when they became lifelines for each other. Their pipe dream was to someday meet in LA, where Lucas would design skyscrapers, and Gabriel would learn to fly. But then Gabriel disappeared without so much as a goodbye, and Lucas got himself in trouble with the law.

Five years later, both men are at a loss when they run into each other at a Hollywood bar. Lucas is still angry, but it's not as if Gabriel could control how his mind and body had betrayed him. Being found on the ledge of that bridge had changed everything.

The attraction is immediate, but it's more than their inability to keep their hands off each other. Neither man expects the fierce connection pulling them together. Unfortunately, ignoring their problems doesn't make them disappear. Gabriel's internal struggles are serious...dangerous. And no matter how much Lucas wants it to be true, saving Gabriel won't make up for not being able to save his mom. If they don't find the strength to face their own demons before the darkness takes hold, they risk more than just losing each other forever.

Maybe better to read this one

I liked the story a lot.
Narrators can make or break a book. Thomas Fawley has a quiet understated style which may or may not be to your liking, but he fundamentally understands what he’s reading. The performance fits.
Brandon Bujnowski misses the mark. His intonation and inflection are all wrong, over and over, throughout. Emphasis on the wrong words and pauses in odd places change the author’s meaning. The extra energy I had to put in to untangle what he twisted around distracted from the story.

I recommend the book, but maybe not this audio.

Good story

Good story, narrator is not good. At all. He’s not good. Annoying voice and too robotic for me.

✫✫ 4 Stars ✫✫

I really liked Lucas and Gabriel, their love story wasn't easy but it felt real. I love a second chance romance but this was so much more. Both of them have issues and they help each other though it which is exactly what I needed in a book today.

I really enjoyed the narration too! Both of them really brought their characters to life!

Heartrending!

Oh these boys made me so weepy! Towards the end I was so tempted to pull my car over just so I could get a good cry on for them.
Lucas and Gabriel, boy did these 2 have it rough. Their struggles were so real and heart-breaking. It just hurt my heart thinking of everything they went through, and all the ways they had to survive on their own. I'm so glad they found each other again.
Such hope for them in the future!

I enjoyed the narration. Both narrators brought their characters to life and really made me feel for them.

New adult, second chance romance

This was sweet, but just ok for me. I listened to the audiobook and one of the narrators was great (Gabriel’s chapters) and the other I didn’t like at all (Lucas’s chapters), so that didn’t help.

Thomas Fawley - Gabriel
Brandon Bujnowski - Lucas

Fantastic NA M/M Romance!!!

What a great story by Nyrae Dawn and Christina Lee!

Gabriel and Lucas's story is so touching and sweet. The narration really did a great job of bringing this story to life!!!

What I loved about this book:
~ Alternating POV. My favorite way to read. Love that we get inside both Lucas and Gabriel's POV.

~ The writing. This is the 3rd book I've read that was written by 2 authors and again I'm impressed with how seamlessly the writing flows. Great collaboration.

~ The characters are real. They're flawed. They have issues to deal with and real life is hard. Gabriel has bipolar disorder. Lucas's mom was an alcoholic. These things really affect their lives. I just wanted to crawl into the book and hug these boys. But these boys are strong.

~ Chemistry. I loved the pull between the characters.

~ I loved watching Gabriel and Lucas grow throughout the book. They both have dreams and were floundering a bit. But they get it together in the end.

"You and me? We got this."

Bottom line: Great new adult m/m romance about finding your happily ever after despite all of the challenges real life throws at you. Highly recommend.

A beautiful story

I sincerely loved how mental illness was brought into this book we need to always talk about issues as we all have them!

Started out good, but petered out midway.

I put it down and it was a struggle to pick it back up and finish it. But I did like the beginning a lot and the past relationship was sweet. The narration was fine.

All angst no substance

I had high hopes for this series and it has been months since I stopped listening to a book midway through. This is coming from someone who goes through 4-7 audiobooks a week. Sadly, this one just felt like I was wasting my time. I didn’t find the characters particularly compelling, the writing quality was banal at best, and the story arc was slow paced and predictable. I’m not even sure I will give the next two books a chance. :(
