About this listen

Sick of wrongful-death lawsuits every time a full moon comes around? Call the Underworld Detection Agency. As a human immune to magic, Sophie Lawson can help everyone from banshee to zombie transition into normal, everyday San Francisco life. With a handsome werewolf as her UDA boss and a fashionista vampire for a roommate, Sophie knows everything there is to know about the undead, the unseen, and the uncanny. That is, until a rash of gruesome murders has demons and mortals running for cover, and Sophie finds herself playing sidekick to detective Parker Hayes. Dodging raging bloodsuckers, bad-tempered fairies, and love-struck trolls is one thing. But when Sophie discovers Parker isn't what he seems, she has only one chance to figure out whom to trust. Because an evil hiding in plain sight is closing in - and is about to make one wisecracking human its means to ultimate power.

Annoying Narrator

The story line was outstanding but the narrator did not fit the characters in the book. Every person sounded the same. Very annoying to listen to.

Narrater makes this impossible to listen to

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. My bad for not listening to a sample before downloading but I couldn't get through the first chapter. That narrator reads much to fast and in a non-stop excited tone. I tried 0.75 speed which might have been OK but there was a weird echo like sound at that speed.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrater needs to read slower and tone it down a bit.

Airhead, ADD and an interesting cast of characters

Perhaps it is just me, but I really don't think that all female characters in their mid 20s need to be airheads or ditzy. Our heroine gets lost in her internal monologue just a bit too often for my taste. The characters are fairly well developed and provide an interesting enough contrast to keep the plot moving. It would be nice if the narrator provided a bit more contrast between characters voices so that the POV shift didn't get lost in the airhead imitation. Worth the price on sale - don't spend a credit

A fun story

I enjoyed this audio book. It goes quickly and is fun. This is a story that can be listened over again. I didn't pay the cover attention until I read other reviews. They are correct in that this cover doesn't match the story. But, I have been misled in the past by covers. As a result I ignore them. I was looking for a new author to listen to. I liked the story synopsis so I gave it a try. My biggest complaint is one I have with any series. I like the story to end with a hint of more to come. I don't like the story to end as a probable beginning for the next novel. If you are looking for a fun story with a pretty good narration give this a listen.

Annoying main character.

The main character is extremely immature and illogical. Somewhat like an hormonal fourteen years old. So it may be of interest to teenagers.
The world created is not original nor is it an improvement on other of its kind.
This book is a bust for adults. I will be returning it.
The narration was on a par for the book: annoying.

Too young for me

I think this book is aimed at a different demographic than I fall into, and it definitely doesn't span the ages.
That being said, I think the narrator is perfect for the role. She sounds young and a little too intense in that all-knowing way that the young twenty-somethings have.
It reads as though the author is her own demographic. I am giving a better score to the narrator for her interpretation. She'd drive me batty after a while, but that it is as much a part of the what she is reading.
Who might like the book? Someone of the targeted demographic who is looking for something silly for the drive home?

Narration was disappointing

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I will have to read this book instead of listening to narration. I found the narrator's voice annoying because of the lisp and the nasal tone.

Has Under Wraps turned you off from other books in this genre?

no

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I found the narrator's voice annoying because of the lisp and the nasal tone.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I did not get past the first chapter because of the voice but I am willing to read this book.

Horrible

I think this was written and narrated by a young teen. Boring, inconsistent, whiney, arghhh!
