About this listen

The highway from Los Angeles to the Palm Springs desert is parched, unforgiving, and deadly. In the suffocating stillness of a car trunk, a man, his mouth and hands bound with duct tape, awaits his fate. What possible enemy could be bitter enough to commit such a heinous crime? And when will the monster make another move?

Ali Reynolds is traveling that same blistering, lonesome highway, looking forward to putting her past behind her. But her cheating husband is in a hurry for a divorce, and the television network that wrongfully dismissed her for the sole sin of being over 40 will face her in court as well.

As she passes the site of a horrifying accident, Ali is grateful that it's no longer her job to report the news, until she finds out that the news is her own: the victim is Ali's cheating husband. And soon she'll find herself the prime suspect at the center of a terrifying web of evil.

A twisted and lethal drama of heart-pounding suspense, Web of Evil asks the question: If hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, just what punishment could that fury unleash?

Janice is BRILLIANT

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I developed a fondness for Jance becasue she writes about an area I often travel through on my way to San Carlos Sonora Mexico from central New Mexico. Her plot lines on all her series revolve around geography and history of the region and it’s easy to visualize just what she is describing. Each series has it’s own familiar characters and lots of twists and turns. The Beaumont series is a good read but I’m not fond of the narrator. There are some in the other series I prefer over others. All in all, it’s a great way to pass the time while I do my sewing work.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don’t have any one.

I'm not sure about this series

After I read the first book, I thought I found a new mystery series that I can enjoy. However, after reading the second book of the series I'm not sure. In this book, Ali consistently makes foolish and reckless decisions. She complains about paying her team of lawyers, tey, she ignores their advice. A friend of hers who is also a policeman volunteers to help her and she not only ignores his advise but she treats him like crap. This guy is in L.A. to help her and not once does she offer to help him with his expenses. Yet she is willing to help out everyone else financially. The only thing that saves this book is that the plot was engaging. Their were serverl many twists and turns that kept me interested. However, because of ALi's behavior, I had to stop reading a couple of times and scream out loud. I did finish the book and it was entertaining. I might read the next book. If that one isn't good, I will be finish with this series.

Good story, not a fan of narrator

While a good story told well, New York/East coast accent of narrator wrong and grating. Fine if the characters were from that area of the country, but story was based on characters from Northern Arizona. Was all set to listen to the rest of the series, but unfortunately will not as they have the same narrator. Bummed!

I agree

I agree with the other posted reviews -- this was not J.A. Jance's best effort!

not my favorite

I am a big J A Jance fan. This is one of my least favorites tho. I read it when it was first published and not since then. I recently decided to listen to the Allie Reynolds books. Thought about skipping this one, didn't. Main problem is that I just don't like stories where the main character is the suspect in murder. Second problem, too many times where I thought oh Allie, don't do that. You know that's a bad idea.

not her best

Jance books are always a good listen and so is Web of Evil. Compared to her other books, however, the plotting is weak and the lead character's actions sometimes lacking in credibility.
