About this listen

Detective Paige Whiskey comes from a long line of witches. They may not all be the most powerful, but they are outspoken and supportive of their community. She alone has no gifts. She can't summon fire, can't read minds. She knows the arcane. She's studied it. That, along with her connection to the Whiskey Witches, lands her some pretty strange cases.

Like the sacrificial murders of St. Francisville, Louisiana. There's a killer on the loose, choosing people in a vain attempt to raise a demon. Not just any demon, though. A man born long ago, made a demon in order to protect the Gate to Hell.

Together with demon hunter, Dexx Colt, her kitchen-witch grandmother, and her paranormal investigator brother-in-law, they unravel a conspiracy far bigger than a few simple murders, and re-discover Paige's gift.

She's a demon summoner and she's key to the killer's plan.

Complex storyline & characters!

This is my first encounter with author S. M. Blooding and I gotta say I am blown away by her writing ability. Blooding weaves a diverse, complex story filled with amazing characters whose backstories could be books of their own. Whiskey Witches is a fast paced, thrilling paranormal read that i highly recommend. The main character, Paige Whiskey, is phenomenal. I seriously do not know how she controls her anger because if i was in her shoes I would be summoning a horde of demons to exact my revenge. Trust me read or listen to this book!

The narrator, Kalinda Little, did an fantastic job of embodying each character. Through her interpretation the story sprang to life from my speakers.

This book has everything!

I loved this book! It's addictive, fun, funny, full of twists and turns, and exciting. I couldn't stop listening to this book and crave more! The story had me in the tip of my chair the whole time. Page is tough and a bit reckless, Dex is fun and sexy. Demons, angels, witches and whatnot - it's a combination of all your favourite shows mixed together into a perfect story.

The story is easy to listen to, the narration is smooth and charismatic. All characters are easily distinguishable - the accents are well done. A great book through and through.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Great story

While I loved the story in general; I struggled with it because of my personal beliefs. Some of the statements contradicted my beliefs. Paige and Dex make a great working team with a little teaser of romance. My heart really aches about how her mother took her daughter from her and continually keeps her away. It makes me angry that a mother could be this cruel to another mother. This story really engaged me and invoked a lot of different feelings. The narrator did a great job telling this story.

Witches, demons, angels, and more!

Whiskey Witches - Episodes 1-4
By: S. M. Blooding
Narrated by: Kalinda Little
Series: Whiskey Witches, Book 1
I really enjoyed this audible book. She is a demon summoner and a detective. A summoner also calls to demons especially when someone captures her and draws signs on her. He is a demon hunter. They are best friends if she agrees or not. She has a demon she calls to ask information off, almost like a friend. Live is different in Paige's life. Love this story! There is so much here! Suspense, action, thrills, magic, heartbreak, demons, angels, and more!
The narrator has a rough voice but fits perfect for this story! She does all the voices perfect and keeps the moods and emotions flowing wonderfully!

A Must Read for Paranormal Mystery Fans

Whiskey Witches is an amazing story and performance. S. M. Blooding's story includes well-rounded characters with powers and problems and the reasons to struggle with both. It is rare to find a 'tough cop' like Paige Whiskey that you just can't help feeling sorry for and at the same time wondering keep 'what the hell are you being so stubborn for?' Dexx is also easy to root for. He has gotten himself tangled up in Paige's 'family problems,' but, at the same time he is doing everything he can to help her to deal with those problems while also trying to solve a case that could cost both of them their lives. And when is he going to kiss her? The plot twists and turns, keeping you guessing, and also keeping you wondering who are the good guys and who are the bad guys and why do BOTH keep killing people? Making the conundrum even more perplexing is that said good and bad guys are Demons and Angels.... Shouldn't that shed some light (or darkness) on the confusion? Not always, it seems. I could not wait to finish the book and now I cannot wait to read (listen to) the next one.

Kalinda Little's performance was also very good, making the character's easily defined and giving them life. Her speech is clear and easily understood. I hope that she also narrates the rest of the series.

If witches as homicide detectives is your cup of tea, then grab some crumpets and spend some time with Paige, Dexx and the rest. You won't be sorry.

I loved this book!! It was a breath of fresh air. I needed something new and refreshing. This was exactly what I needed 😃

The story of Paige was engaging. I loved the excitement, the hint of a possible romance, all the characters. I was enthralled from the very beginning.

The voice was great, the writing fantastic. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Great read!

urban-fantasy, demon-hunter, demons, ghosts, witches, serial-killer, family-dynamics, law-enforcement, paranormal

Very different from other urban fantasy/demon hunter books I've read. Not a good or bad thing, but certainly fascinating. The publisher's blurb gives a good intro, but there is so much more. There is a pervasive sense of urgency, snarky comments, convoluted family involvements, and a Louisiana police chief plus an FBI agent who have an inkling about the paranormal. The characters certainly are and are very well developed. It's really, REALLY, worth the money to read it.
But I was happy to get it as Whispersync on the cheap. Kalinda Little adds a lot to the emotional tones of the characters and the tale itself.

Dark fantasy

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by S.M. Blooding. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

When I decided to listen to this book I had no idea how dark it would be. I usually try to avoid dark fantasies because I prefer to read more positive novels. After a few minutes, I started wondering what I'd gotten myself into but I ended up liking it. There are some books that are better read and some that are better listened to, and I think I would have liked Whisky Witches even more if I'd read it.

Paige is smart and independent but broken. The problem is that she didn't even know it because her memory of the last few years was erased by her family "for her own good." They're scared of her powers because she's a demon summoner. Now that she has her memory back, she has terrible memories to deal with besides trying to find a killer and trying to keep herself and others safe from demons and angels.

When I heard that Paige was a demon summoner, it made me wonder about her, but once I learned about this world's demons and angels, a demon summoner didn't sound so bad. Paige's nonbelief in God and the way angels are portrayed may bother some readers.

Kalinda Little does a good job narrating. She has good timing and inflection and I was able to follow the different characters by the changes in her voice.

Whisky Witches is a mostly dark supernatural adventure but it did make me laugh once or twice and there's this sexual tension between Paige and Dexx that will hopefully be explored more in the next novel which I'll be listening to soon. I'm looking forward to learning what happens next with Paige.

An Awesome Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, and found it very entertaining. Witches, Demons and Angels, now that's almost perfect combination, through in a Demon Hunter and it's perfect. This action pack novel has lots of suspense, blood and humor. The main character is a police detective born into a long line of witches and she's out to save the world. It's a bumpy ride with unplanned turners and detours, but a very enjoyable listen. I'm looking forward to listening to book 2.
