About this listen

I was burned at the stake at 14....

I was drowned in a lake when I was 24....

At 27, I was stoned in a public square....

I have died a hundred times in a hundred different ways, usually at the hands of the humans I've tried to save. But when a pregnant young woman finds her way into my tattoo shop with a demon on her tail, things go from bad to worse. Being a centuries-old witch isn't going to help me - nothing will.

This time I might just die in a way that sticks...permanently.

Not so good

The narrating is poor. The listener can’t differentiate between characters, which makes it hard to follow. I like the story, but needs a lot more character development.

good but new narrator please

The storyline was good and entertaining, but the narrator dropped her voice at the end of each sentence so it sounded like it was spoken by a the stereotypical dumb clueless beach blond.

The narrator is Max personified

I've read this book, well, the entire series a couple times, but listening to it is a whole new experience! The narrator brings Max to life exactly as I hear her in mind. Very well done! Simply amazing!

Yyyaaaasssssss

This book is amazing. I love the main characters and the narration is spot on. Max is a sassy take no shit gal that loves her people. I can 100% relate to that.

So SO Good!!

I have read and listened to this series several times and it's always as good as I remember!

The way Annie Anderson writes characters is amazing! They feel like real people you would meet out in the world. She doesn't just gloss over the character building, they are fully fleshed out characters. The stories she tells with these characters are always engaging. Again I've read and listened to this series several times and I'm STILL on the edge of my seat.

Throw in Cassandra Parker as narrator and this should already be a TV show. A movie wouldn't be enough! To be honest, 5 stars doesn't even feel like enough.

I strongly suggest picking up ANYTHING written by Annie Anderson and do it faster when you see Cassandra Parker is the narrator! 🙌🏻

Too much fowl language

It would be nice if books came with a rating. I wanted to listen to the whole series but I think I'll pass. The narrator did a great job though.

The narrator

The voice, the accent, the tone all grated on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard

Fantastical story, fun for light fiction

The story is fantasy and a fun ride. The narrator is a good actor in most ways but her "vocal fry" / "millenial growl" ... that rough frog-in-your-throat way of talking ... can get distracting. I almost returned the book within the first 5 minutes because I found it so annoying... but I hung in to give the story a chance and, ultimately, I'm glad I did. I don't usually listen to fluff fiction so this was a good change of pace for summer.

loved the book but its way too short

I really liked the story, all things considered. the narrator took some getting used to, and I had to re-listen to a lot at the beginning because her intonations were very distracting, but I did get used to it. What irritates me is how short the book is- 4 1/2 hours? Most books I buy are 11-13 hours, it should not cost a whole credit. I feel like I am being majorly taken advantage of and I don't see how I could possibly afford to listen to more of her books.
