About this listen

She just wanted to claim her inheritance. What she got was a husband...

Xeni Everly-Wilkins has 10 days to clean out her recently departed aunt's massive colonial in Upstate New York. With the feud between her mom and her sisters still raging even in death, she knows this will be no easy task, but when the will is read Xeni quickly discovers the decades old drama between the former R&B singers is just the tip of the iceberg.

The secrets, lies, and a crap ton of cash spilled on her lawyer's conference room table all come with terms and conditions. Xeni must marry before she can claim the estate that will set her up for life and her aunt has just the groom in mind. The ruggedly handsome and deliciously thick Scotsman who showed up at her aunt's memorial, bagpipes at the ready.

When his dear friend and mentor Sable Everly passed away, Mason McInroy knew she would leave a sizable hole in his heart. He never imagined she'd leave him more than enough money to settle the debt that's keeping him from returning home to Scotland.

With no choice but to say I do, the unlikely pair try to make the best of a messy situation. They had no plans to actually fall in love.

Contains mature themes.

Too much going on

So… perhaps it’s because the author is aiming to reach a diverse audience. Why did these already racial and culturally diverse two people both have to be bisexual — just odd… AND she’s a witch. Come on!! All while he is an oversized (the man had to bend down and turn sideways to get through a doorway… why did he have to be that huge???

narrator

He is so good with voice for women I didn't realize it was just one person performing all characters.

Flirty much

The chemistry between Xeni and Mason was perfect. I enjoyed the flirting. I didn’t initially care for Xeni’s mama. She seemed stuck up and too much. The narrator sounded like an AI program for each character besides Mason. Overall a good listen.

Awesome and entertaining a very good read

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. The narrator was good as we with the different character tones changing frequently

Great story but ABSOLUTELY wrong pick for narration

I believe he tried his best but it kind ruined it for me. For starters, why did they choice a British accent. Two, his attempt at a black woman accent was cringey. Very distracting

Hot sexy and lovely

The reader did an amazing Scottish accent that made the book even hotter.
The characters were strong self sufficient people who found themselves in vulnerable situations and I enjoyed their journey together.
The lead male was a perfect strong but caring man. And Xeni herself was confident and strong. Everything I like in both male and female leads.
I enjoyed the caring and sweetly consensual sex and their banter was hilarious.
I know some people like more conflict but I really enjoyed a story of two people being able to honestly express what they desire from each other without all the silly head games.

This book was fantastic and I have recommended it to my book group and my husband. I will definitely be reading it again as well as more books by this author.

Ps. I very much enjoyed the honest conversation about bisexuality. It was a very small part of the book but I felt seen and it only made me love the characters more.

Still blushing

The listen was easy, his voice ebbed and flowed over each persons tone and wasn’t at all contrived even though he’s clearly one person.

The story was inclusive, but not overtly just normally…

These two were easy to see, the spaces were outlined vividly.

These sex almost made me make a call…but the practicality made me start some personal work instead…

Great listen.

My head hurts

The narrator voice was nice.

I hate myself for writing something negative ish but I only listen to this because I needed an X title.

The story for my was a train wreck but as such you want to see it unfold, so on that end it was okay.

This was definitely outside of what I usually read or listen so other than that it was an okay listen. Unfortunately if I were to read it I would have dnf it.

Solid read but needed more.

I usually love RW books but I’m not so sure I can add this to my list of favorites.
The thing is, the book wasn’t even bad. It’s suoer tropish and all the tropes features are ones I adored! But the main issue was that it was boring🤦🏿‍♀️

The new wave is fluff and this was definitely that but idk, I like my romances with tons of conflict and this just reminded me of Rafe(another book I didn’t love but didn’t hate). Nothing was going on long enough to hold my interest and it took me a lot longer to read than any of her other titles.

What I will say is I loved that both characters were bi and that the main heroine was a black witch! That’s awesome bc I come from a line of brujas and rarely read books about witches in modern time. I also loved the pegging! Very sex positive and sweet!

#makepeggingmainstream

All in all, I’d read anything Rebekah writes! I just need some more conflict next time.

And to the reviewer who’s ignorant enough to post about the bisexual hero being an issue for her, ignore that. I legit can’t wait until ignorant ppl like that evaporate off the face of this planet!
