About this listen

You'll Grow Out of It hilariously and candidly explores the journey of the 21st-century woman.

As both a tomboy and a late bloomer, comedian Jessi Klein grew up feeling more like an outsider than a participant in the rites of modern femininity.

In You'll Grow Out of It, Klein offers - through an incisive collection of real-life stories - a relentlessly funny yet poignant take on a variety of topics she has experienced along her strange journey to womanhood and beyond. These include her "transformation from Pippi Longstocking-esque tomboy to are-you-a-lesbian-or-what tom man", attempting to find watchable porn, and identifying the difference between being called "ma'am" and "miss" ("miss sounds like you weigh 99 pounds").

Raw, relatable, and consistently hilarious, You'll Grow Out of It is a one-of-a-kind book by a singular and irresistible comic voice.

Fun story!

I really enjoyed this book, and thought Jessi Klein's narration was witty, wry, and added a lot to her story. From dating, to finding her way professionally, to eventually marriage and a son, she made me laugh, gasp, and at the end even get a little teary. What a gift for her to share her journey.

Highly recommend, and very entertaining.

Don't Grow Out of It!

Very fun, very personal, and slightly naughty. Jessi reveals her basket of insecurities, riffing on topics from choosing a wedding dress to her secret love of porn. As a man I enjoyed it; women should like it even more. It's like an extended standup routine: Nice light listening that can be consumed in small bites.

Thought I was a Poodle, I am a Wolf

Where does You'll Grow Out of It rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'd rank it up there with "Bossy Pants", "Yes, Please" and "Why Not Me". Smart, funny and well written.

Good story, funny at times.

By the end I got a little tired of her story-it actually got a bit pathetic.

I was bummed when it ended

I don't think I've ever seen Jessi Klein preform stand up but I as a fan of SNL and The Amy Schumer Show I thought I'd give it a listen. She's a great storyteller and just plain hilarious. Jessi covers most of the typical female struggles: dating, being single, body image, depression, relationships, marriage, infertility, and of course her career as a writer and comedian. It's not exactly the content of the stories that I connected with but more her inner voice narration of life's daily bullshit that had me laughing and and wishing she was my BF.

I wanted the book to go on forever!

I loved the writing -- vivid and colorful with bright bursts of hilarious comments and asides. And I couldn't imagine anyone else performing the book; Jessi Klein is a gifted reader with clear enunciation and superlative comedic timing.

IMO, Miss Jessi Klein truly is female equivalent of Groucho Marx, but with deeper dimension and a slice of witty self-deprecation that Groucho lacked (although maybe I just never noticed -- I was younger and even stupidier, if that's a word, when I last saw Duck Soup, etc.).

I hope Jessi writes another book. I will stand in line through hail, storm and Martian invasions to buy the book.
