Parallel World

Suspended for getting into a fight with a bully, when 16-year-old Morgan Campbell is grounded, she runs away. When she returns home the next day, her world is turned upside-down. Not only is her family missing, but another family is living in her house and claims to have lived there for weeks. As Morgan desperately works to figure out what has happened, she finds society has become obsessed with weight in a way she has never seen before.

Trapped in a parallel universe where it is illegal to be overweight, Morgan Campbell is dragged out of her house and locked up in a Federally Assisted Thinning (F.A.T.) Center. Bullied by the Enforcers who run the place, and treated like a prisoner, all she can think about is breaking out so she can get back to her world. With her whereabouts constantly monitored by the chip injected in her arm, and not having any access to the outside world, she fears she won't be able to escape and that she will be stuck in this world forever.

Trapped in a parallel universe where it is illegal to be overweight, sixteen-year-old Morgan Campbell is on the run with Billy Foster, the boy who helped her escape Camp Willowmoss, the Federally Assisted Thinning (F.A.T.) Center where they were both held prisoner. With nowhere to go, and no resources, they fear for their lives as they hide from the Enforcers who would capture them. Morgan has six weeks until the right date, at which time she can pass back through the portal that brought her to this world.

Morgan is thrilled to be back in her world with her family, and is ecstatic that Billy is by her side. Ready to settle into her life and to show Billy how wonderful her world is, Morgan becomes alarmed when a government official makes an unexpected announcement at her school.

Morgan Campbell has always followed the rules—regular weigh-ins, only eating what she’s supposed to—all in an effort to guarantee she’s never noticed by the Enforcers, the people who make sure all citizens obey the law. So when a boy she’s never met before tells her that Enforcers are hunting for her and that she needs to go with him, she doesn’t hesitate.
