About this listen

What if your mother-in-law turned out to be an evil, cold-blooded witch... literally?

Ever since fabulously wealthy Malcolm Doran walked into her life and swept her off her feet, fledgling architect Jane Boyle has been living a fairy tale. When he proposes with a stunning diamond to seal the deal, Jane can't believe her incredible luck and decides to leave her Paris-based job to make a new start with Malcolm in New York.

But when Malcolm introduces Jane to the esteemed Doran clan, one of Manhattan's most feared and revered families, Jane's fairy tale takes a darker turn. Soon everything she thought she knew about the world and herself is upended. Now Jane must struggle with newfound magical abilities and the threat of those who will stop at nothing to get them.

different from what I expected

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend this book if you are intrigued by the supernatural.

Any additional comments?

I originally downloaded this book b/c I had become interested in the tv show, but it was cancelled. I wanted to know more about the story. Unfortunately, as is the case in most circumstances, the show didn't follow the book series at all. Fortunately, I still enjoyed listening to the series.

Well...

I didn't dislike it but it wasn't what I was hoping for. I will listen to the others in hopes the characters grow up at some point. Up to the very end I kept thinking she was too young to be out late or wandering Manhattan alone.

Narration was done well.

Different than the TV show, but a good different

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Listening to this book was well worth the time put into it. The story was fun, exciting and intriguing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 666 Park Avenue?

When we realize what of the main characters is actually capable of, it all turns around.

Do you think 666 Park Avenue needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, I think the book was wrapped up nicely and a follow-up book isn't needed.

Any additional comments?

I watched the TV show and enjoyed it, but the book was so much better. Where relationships and strange coincidences on the TV show felt forced, they made sense and flowed better in the book. Well worth the listen.

The TV show was cheesy fun. This is not.

What disappointed you about 666 Park Avenue?

The writing style and the story seemed to be told be a juvenile mind.

Would you ever listen to anything by Gabriella Pierce again?

No, no, no. In fact, I would like to return the two other books in the series I haven't yet listened to and get something else. Please?

What three words best describe Ilyana Kadushin’s voice?

She did the best she could with what she was given.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Eye rolls. Dread.

Painful attempt at a novel.

What would have made 666 Park Avenue better?

The story is extremely slow paced, yet it moves you along expecting there to be an actual ending. Well or at least a story to be told.

What was most disappointing about Gabriella Pierce’s story?

The better question would be what did not disappoint. You listen to the story and it keeps you with it expecting something to happen. Anything really. But nothing ever does. There is no ending to the story, no highlights, nothing. It's like a wet dream just after waking up in the morning. You know there is potential in the story and you can imagine an infinite number of twists and turns that would make the experience a pleasurable one. Yet once you are fully awake, it is simply deeply unsatisfying. The story leaves you hanging with tantalizing possibilities without ever resolving to anything. Even if this is just one installment in a series, this story is so badly ended, that you should avoid it at any cost unless you are a deeply masochistic person.

What does Ilyana Kadushin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration is what kept me listening. It is pleasantly melodious and tantalizing. It takes a horrid attempt at writing a story and imbues it with at least some character. The only reason the narration only gets 4 stars is that it is blatantly dishonest. A bland and uninspired reading of a bland and uninspired story would have been more fitting. My deepest respects to the narrator. She managed to turn this audiobook from water, if not into wine, at least into artificial grape-juice.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from 666 Park Avenue?

About half the novel is fluff and could be cut, but only if it were replaced with something of actual substance, like an actual story line.
