I truly loved how much detail was put into the character development and getting to know them. I’m never this invested in other characters, but with this series, I was. Sure, there are parts that drag a bit, but in the end, they helped me feel more immersed. There’s something really special about the relationships and bonds in this series that’s missing from so many other, more popular books. Even when I compare it to ACOTAR, these characters feel so fleshed out. It’s like they each have hundreds of pages of backstory, and if she wrote novellas for every one of them, I’d be first in line to read them.

Yes, she’s the “chosen one,” but this series started before that trope got completely overused. I’d be really disappointed if she changed her original ideas because some people are sick of a “trope” that would be disingenuous. Honestly though, if I was the FMC, I’d want to be the very best that no one ever was (yes, Pokémon reference lol). There’s also a clear role of fate in the story, and in order to complete her task, she has to be the sum of many parts. Plus, without giving away spoilers, she shares her power more than most female main characters do.

For me personally, I love love triangles and jealous, petty males in a toe-curling way that makes me giggle. That part was pretty small in the grand scheme of the book, though. I’m also a total spicy romantasy junkie, and while I don’t always like slow burns, this one was done really well. The storyline is strong and doesn’t rely on any single relationship to carry it. That alone makes it stand out.

For anyone wondering about the narrator change, her equipment broke and I don’t think she’s doing much voice work right now. SB didn’t want to leave us hanging and brought in, in my opinion, a great replacement. I agree that it took her a while to find her footing. Some of the characters and accents felt off— Wilder sounded more Scottish or Irish in this one, which threw me— but by the end, I really enjoyed her. Maybe she could’ve tried a little harder to match the original narrator’s voices, but overall, she did a good job.

I seriously can’t wait for the next book. I’m glad SB is taking her time and taking care of herself, medically and otherwise. If you want to support an author, don’t act entitled to their next book. Wait patiently, even if the next one is five years away. Do your thing, SB. Congratulations on a stellar book!

It’s “longer” but to me refreshing

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is by no means without flaws, but the biggest thing it has going for it is that, at least for me, it has this enchanting storyworld and likeable characters. I really love the friendships and the loyalty displayed by the characters. I never wanted to leave, and I was grateful for the book being so long, even though, objectively, I thought the author was trying cram maybe a bit too much into one book. The chosen one trope was taken a bit too far, in my opinion, and some things were just a little too convenient, but in all honesty, I didn't mind so much, except for the fact that my observations of it pulled me out of the story in the first half of the book. The latter half flowed better. I liked the steamy scenes, they were very well done and not awkward at all. I just wanted more. I didn't like the love triangle (I never do). I hope it gets quickly resolved in the next book. Despite thougths of uncertainty, the choice has clearly been made already. There's only the matter of admitting it to oneself and others. So lets get on with it! ...And please, dear S.B. Nova, don't let the "choice" be taken away through death. I tgink that cheapens it. I'd rather the other person loose interest by finding their mate if there isn't to be a heartbreak. Anyway, I just really look forward to developing the romance that was started in this book and getting to know that love interest better. Oh and that other love interest in the beginning for a certain someone (I'm trying to avoid spoilers). I hope we see more of that too! I really look forward to the next book in the series and whatever else comes after, because clearly the author is bursting with imagination and ideas. I hope she will stay within this storyworld for a long while, because I've really grown to love it.

The narrator was so so. It was not the same narrator as last time and she didn't pronounce the words the same way or make the characters have the same accents even. She made different voices for different characters, which was a nice effort, but some of those voices were just strange, like she was narrating for a children's book. I had the feeling she had neither read nor listened to the previous book because Kai's voice was so ridiculous and didn't match his character at all in the beginning. Then, later on, as she got to know him better, it was as if she realized the error of her ways and she mellowed the goofy voice out. That being said, she wasn't so bad that I couldn't listen to the story. She irritated me more in the first half of the book and then in the latter half I wasn't as bothered.

I wonder why she switched narrators

I was really excited for this book to come out after reading the first, and it was worth it. I wish it hadn't ended, but I can hope the author is still working on this series.

Satisfying Wait

I listen to many books of similar setting and subject matter, but somehow this one manages to feel fresh. I like all the different kinds of love and relationships that are explored.

Highly recommend!

Love these books… the writing is wonderful, so beautifully descriptive without being over the top or corny. The characters are all so unique and loveable. The world is high fantasy and so fun, lots of world building in this book. And the narration is good! It’s a different narrator than the first book but they’re both good. This narrator pronounces some things differently and gives the characters different voices/accents, but it seems like the new accents are more what the author intended? I only wish she had done Liora’s accent more similar to how the first audiobook narrator voiced her.

One of my favorite series!

The development of this story is absolutely amazing and I cannot wait until the next book. I was a little upset the voice actress changed BUT I feel like for the development of the story it helped because she sounds a lot more mature, I really hope that the next book won't take five years for release because I don't think I could handle it. I guess Ina's mate in the first book and I'm so happy I was right! The spiciness in the book didn't even subtract from story like other books normally do. Ugh I'm so excited for more of this story.

I'm so excited!!!!

Such a great story! Adventure, love, fantasy, and chaos all in one novel. Hopefully it will not take so long for the next book to come out. I was taken back by the change of narrator, but I eventually adapted.

Can’t wait for next book!

As I got within the last hour of this book, I realized I would either be waiting a long time or never get a resolution… please don’t take so long for the next book.

Not Another Five years

Typical story line but very well presented. Characters are independent and yet work very well together - and easy to identify throughout the story

Love it!

I fell in love with the characters in the first book, and I did the same in the second! However, there are many new amazing characters introduced. Once I got to the part where Enia found her mate I could not stop listening! I actually found myself a little disappointed in that regard because I wanted her to stop skirting around him and just fall! Anyway, such a great story! I can't wait for the third. I hope it doesn't take as long as it took for the second.

So so good!
