Publisher's summary

In this Wall Street Journal bestseller, FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick must unlock the mystery of a mass murder, and the secrets of its silent witness...

For Mercy Kilpatrick, returning to rural Oregon has meant coming to terms with her roots. Raised as a prepper, Mercy is now relying on her survivalist instincts to defend her town from the people the law can’t reach. But this time, an investigation calling up a dark past for her and police chief Truman Daly may be hitting too close to home.

A rainstorm has uncovered the remains of five people - a reprise of the distinctive slaughter of two families twenty years ago. Except the convicted killer is in prison. Is this the case of a sick copycat, or is the wrong man behind bars? One person might have the answer. The lone survivor of the decades-old crimes has returned to town still claiming that she can’t remember a thing about the night she was left for dead. As the search for the truth becomes more dangerous, Mercy fears that the traumatized woman may not have buried her memories at all. She might be keeping them a secret. And there’s a price to be paid for revealing them.

I love Mercy!

Kendra Elliot is an excellent writer. The Mercy Kilpatrick novels are well written, exciting, and entertaining. The narrator of the Audible version is very good. Her ability to indicate different characters, make or female is phenomenal. The voice doesn't get in the way of the story. Mercy and Truman are great, strong, and believable characters.

Kendra does it again.

There is a story within a story within a story. Mystery, murder, loss and found secrets, passions, lives and much much more. Thank you, Kendra, and please, keep the stories coming.

good performance,nonsensical(at times)storyline

I'm listening to the mercy Kilpatrick series and so far, so good. But in this story, I definitely found some parts that were unbelievable. When important phone calls aren't made right the way or when you can just text it to the important party, that doesn't make sense. Oft times the main characters found out something important and instead of calling the other person, they just kept it to themselves for a later time. In which (of course) something else bad happens before that later time, and the information never got passed on. I will say that I like the fact that the author does not leave us hanging, even if the main characters do not know the reasons or all of the details, the reader knows everything. It's frustrating to know that they could not solve the crime completely, but it is true that all Mysteries and cases to not get a happy ending in real life. Other than that, the reader is great as always, she performs Mercy Kilpatrick better than most other series readers. I am satisfied with this book, if you like a good mystery reading this would be a good option. Now it has come to my attention, that a lot of authors, especially when writing a series, become stagnant in their word choice. this series is no different. Everything is in the eyes, every time there's a shuddering breath, there are always the same words being used , I'd like to see a thesaurus come into play with the author.

Standing Strong

Well dang, Mercy and Truman really are in the thick of it in this book. I am loving this series. Both Truman and Mercy are great characters and their cases are always interesting to read about. Can't wait to get to the next book.

What a breath of fresh air to know the true soul is kind

i so enjoyed the young man who was raised in a hateful society can still have a heart of gold. Possibly passed through his grandpa. It is truly scary and sad what PTSD can do to the mind. Amazed and honored by the strong will of the characters in your books.
