About this listen

A cozy sci-fi novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Star Wars: Brotherhood

The only thing harder than finding someone in a time loop is losing them.

Grieving her best friend's recent death, neuroscientist Mariana Pineda’s ready to give up everything to start anew. Even her career—after one last week consulting at a top secret particle accelerator.

Except the strangest thing happens: a man stops her…and claims they've met before. Carter Cho knows who she is, why she's mourning, why she's there. And he needs Mariana to remember everything he’s saying.

Because time is about to loop.

In a flash of energy, it’s Monday morning. Again. Together, Mariana and Carter enter an inevitable life, four days at a time, over and over, without permanence except for what they share.

But just as they figure out this new life, everything changes. Because Carter's memories of the time loop are slowly disappearing. And their only chance at happiness is breaking out of the loop—forever.

“This unusual and satisfying near-future time-travel adventure fires on all cylinders.” —Publishers Weekly

I didn't know what to really expect of this book. I found it enjoyable and interesting for the casual listening.

scifi heavy

the looping could have been trimmed. clever plot and the ending was nice but there could have been more chemistry between the leafs.

Great time loop story!

I wanted more of the love story. More Carter. An epilogue about the main characters.

Stuck in a 4 day time loop?

Stuck in a 4 day time loop? Why not fall in love with the only other person stuck in it?

After her best friend dies, neuroscientist Mariana Pineda is ready to give up everything to start anew. Even her career— after one last week consulting at a top secret particle accelerator. Except the strangest thing happens. A man stops her…and claims they've met before.

With everything resetting—even bank accounts—joy comes in the little a delicious (and expensive) meal, a tennis match, giving a dog his favorite treat. In some ways, those are all that matter.

But just as they figure out this new life, everything changes. Because Carter's memories of the time loop are slowly disappearing. And their only chance at happiness is breaking out of the loop—forever.

Skillfully entwined threads of time in all its permutations, like only Mike Chen can do it!

Good time travel story

I enjoyed the pseudoscience, character development, and plot. I appreciated the imaginative way that the two main characters navigated their time loop and the author’s handling of their relationship. The last third of the book is less well-developed than the first part, but I liked how it all came together. Overall, a satisfying time travel story with some (but not too many) romantic elements.

Great start then lost the plot

The book starts great, however 75% into the story, the plot twists and then becomes very obscure. If there was a resolution to the mystery, it is lost in the final pages.

Excellent narration & worthwhile, but NOT a romance

I love romances and romcom novels, and I also love sci fi, so I loved the idea of a story that was both — however, I think this one lands firmly in the sci fi camp, as the “romance” aspect is very minimal. Perhaps in a screen adaption, actors with great screen chemistry could make the romance element work, but there simply wasn’t any chemistry between these two characters on the page. That said, it was a fun story, and if I’d read it *not* anticipating for or craving a romance, then I might have rated it higher.
