Publisher's summary

The second book in the clever, sexy Desperately Seeking Duke series from USA Today best-selling and RITA award-winning author Caroline Linden

An Officer and a Scotsman

Captain Andrew St. James always knew he came from a noble family, but his branch grew far from the wealth and status. Nothing shocks him more than learning that he now stands as heir presumptive to his distant cousin the Duke of Carlyle. There is much for Drew to learn and adjust to - but first he goes home to Edinburgh, to tell his mother and three sisters of their startling good fortune.

A Lady and a Temptress

Ilsa Ramsay yearns for some adventure and fun, not another husband. When she discovers the handsome soldier who sweeps her off her feet for a rollicking dance is her friend’s brother, soon to be an English duke, she tells herself he’s not for her, no matter how tempting he is. But one impulsive kiss, then another, and another...says otherwise.

An Irresistible Attraction

Drew means to marry a respectable, dignified Englishwoman - a very proper future duchess. The spirited Ilsa is none of that. Still, when she’s caught in a dangerous scandal, he leaps to her aid without hesitation. And neither family duty nor future obligation can make them ignore what’s in both their hearts.

Simply wonderful!

LOVED the entire 2nd part of this series! Sweet love story, about a widowed woman who'd never truly experienced UNCONDITIONAL love by anyone...& how she finally does!! sweet,, tender,, fun,, & leave you captivated,, waiting for the next book in the series!! HIGHLY recommend! Little steam, but nothing too provocative!

Re-visited and loved the book

It took me a couple tries to get into the book, but it was definitely worth the multiple tries. In typical Linden style, the story was really good and the characters were rich and likeable. Beverly A Crick did an amazingly good job with the Scottish voices...the best I've heard. Beverly does the male and female voices equally well. Eventhough I liked the book, I must admit that I kept looking to see how many chapters were left. At times I even thought "egads, will it ever end?" And the ending was surprising...I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Love this author and narrator

I adore this author. I’m so many of these HAE / Romance stories they rely on the “chemistry for no reason” to explain attraction. Caroline Linden weaves such delightful tales that it’s clear why anyone would fall in love with these people. The most amazing thing to me is that in each novel the protagonists have different personalities, strengths, weaknesses, etc but she writes them so well.

Slow uninteresting, no heat, all around a boring listen

Narrator was good, story was a whole lotta nothing. Don’t waste your credit on this one, I kept waiting for something to happen but ….

Average

It would have been better with less lust and more Scottish culture, history, and creative story.

good narration but undue drama

I greatly enjoyed the first book in the series but this one fell flat. Started strong with interesting set up but then twisted and turned in a tedious manner, making it hard to finish. The heroin did a poor job explaining herself to others, instead kowtowed to all the males in her life, including her very slow realization of the twist obvious to the reader for much of the book.

Narrator did a good job with giving the characters unique voices and made for a pleasant listen.

Oh dear, how awful

The plot is uninformed, the characters hopeless and the reader think that gargling your vowels is a Scottish accent.
