A Newly Revised and Expanded Edition

In the decade since Jim Robbins's A Symphony in the Brain was first published, the control of our bodies, brains, and minds has taken remarkable leaps. From neurofeedback with functional magnetic resonance imaging equipment, to the use of radio waves, to biofeedback of the heart and breath, and coverage of biofeedback by health insurance plans, the numerous advances have driven the need for a revised edition to this groundbreaking book that traces the fascinating, untold story of the development of biofeedback.

Discovered by a small corps of research scientists, this alternative treatment allows a patient to see real-time measurements of their bodily processes. Its advocates claim biofeedback can treat epilepsy, autism, attention deficit disorder, addictions, and depression with no drugs or side effects; bring patients out of vegetative states, even improve golf scores or an opera singer's voice. But biofeedback has faced battles for acceptance in the conservative medical world despite positive signs that it could revolutionize the way an incredibly diverse range of medical and psychological problems are treated.

Offering a wealth of powerful case studies, accessible scientific explanations, and dramatic personal accounts, Robbins remarkable history develops our understanding of this important field.

A good background into the history of Biofeedback

A good background into the history of Biofeedback, where this medical field originated and the challenges it has faced in getting to where it is today. Very well read and lots of background information. Not something you might read multiple times but a very informative audiobook.

The greatest unknown method.

Great book. Gives a great overview of the growth of Neurofeedback. Since it has been published there has been a lot of improvements. It even addresses the beginning of the Othmer Method (a very successful symptom approach method in treatment as apposed to the diagnosis model.

Good narrator.

Very informative

Fall of a complete history of Nuro feedback. Very comprehensive for the average reader. Seems to be a good unbiased review In a field full of bias.

Life Changing Book!

The material in this book is applicable to everyone and every age. The science is a behind it is simplified, explaining how brain waves play a major role in the function and performance. This book helped me to find treatments for my adhd depression and anxiety and I no longer have to suffer with. I hope everyone learns how Neurofeedback can eliminate personality disorders, health issues and more with out the use of pharmaceuticals.

History of neurofeedback

I find neurofeedback to be interesting. I think this is the best thing I ever found to help with anxiety and learning about myself such as being a people pleaser. I wanted to know more and this book was recommended to me. This book basically provides history of neurofeedback and how it effected people who tried it. Very interesting book.

Muy Útil por su imparcialidad

Relata la historia y describe a los protagonistas del Neurofeedback desde un punto de vista imparcial pero muy cercano ya que antes de su trabajo conoció incluso a un niño vecino de su comunidad que se benefició del tratamiento

Simply Amazing

This book was amazing. My boyfriend and I recently began biofeedback training, and in just a few sessions our lives have totally changed. I'm grateful for this information.

Intriguing

Excuse my rant at the end despite finding the topic interesting and hopeful. Discouraging to see how the “almighty dollar” as dear mother used to say, trumps and interferes with doing the right thing. Very disappointed to know this. Makes me angry and wonder what else is a façade and neglected. Like if “we” are really in fact trying to look for a cure for cancer. We certainly have not been trying to stop or prevent the opiate epidemic. Or preventing domestic mass killings. What they all have in common is conflicting monopolizing financial interest by our federal leaders and our political decision makers who are cowards and despicable. “For the people by the people” is BS. SMH
