About this listen

Halloween: it’s a holiday where people shed their boring everyday personalities and become fantastic beings ready for an epic party. Well, guess what? That’s Billy Boston 24/7, 365, baby! It’s who I was before I became a millionaire and it’s who I’ll always be.

My beautiful next door neighbor, Donna, is a hardworking nurse who takes her job seriously and her fun even more so. All she wants is a no-strings arrangement and that’s fine by me. It’s Halloween for us every time we’re together because she likes to role play. There’s no way to get attached if we’re both pretending to be someone else, right?

It’s all smooth as a good whiskey until my married cousins bet me that I can’t get a serious girlfriend by November. So, Donna and I make a deal: She’ll help fix me up to be a proper boyfriend and I’ll help fix up the farmhouse she inherited.

The one she thinks is haunted.

And that’s not the scary part.

Because I realize I’m falling wicked hard for Donna. For real. She’s spooked by the ghost, but I’m afraid I’ll spook her if I tell her how I really feel. We made a pact when we started this no-strings thing: If either of us gets serious, we have to end it.

I have to trick Donna into thinking she’s teaching me how to date, when really I’m treating her to dates with me. But if I screw this up, I’ll lose the woman I’m in love with.

And that’ll haunt me forever.

* This is DUET narration.

** Please note that as of November 18 2024 the female narrator has been changed to Emma Wilder. This is the same brilliant performance by Connor Crais, edited together with a new, brilliant performance by Emma Wilder.**

Finally Billy Boston’s story

I have been waiting for Billy’s HEA and this story did not disappoint. Billy and Donna’s love story is sweet, spicy and hilarious with a side of ghosts. Billy is my exact opposite but I have always loved reading his version of insanity. We had glimpses of Billy and his drunk debauchery in the other books in this series but a full Billy book was chef’s kiss. Billy is a millionaire who still lives in the apartment he had before he won the lottery. He’s had a two year no strings role playing arrangement with his next door neighbor. Donna is a geriatric nurse and likes the escape Billy provides in her life. When his cousins bet Billy cannot get a girlfriend by November 1, he decides he’ll ask Donna to give him dating advice as a way to woo her. And for Halloween fun, there’s Donna’s inherited property that may or may not be haunted. The book is fairly low angst and has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, a bit of spice, snort worthy laughs, groan worthy moments, supportive families, messy pasts, and lots of swoony love. It was wonderfully hilarious to follow these two on their journey to their HEA. Along the way they each got the opportunity to deal with their feelings for each other, to let go of some of their past, and to come to terms with how they view themselves. With A Very No Strings Halloween, Kayley Loring once again proves she’s a queen in the romcom genre. 4.5 stars.

Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright did a phenomenal job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly. The accents were so good!

Hauntingly good Halloween romance

Loved the story and the characters were cute. I was so happy that there wasn’t too much relationship drama and with the way it all ended up. Connor Crais and Makenzie Cartwright are two of my favorite narrators and the both did a great job, but I am not a fan of Connor’s Boston accent. I guess he did a decent job with it, but I would have rather listened to him do the Irish brogue through the entire book. Just my opinion.

buy it and thank me later

this exceeded any expectation that I might’ve had. funny, spicy, spooky, amazing DUET narration.. this was the perfect October read. I can’t wait to re-listen.

connor is one of my favorite narrators so I knew it was going to be great, but even his performance blew me away. I loved Mackenzie as well and can’t wait to listen to more of her work!

10/10. Don’t hesitate.

Enchanting!

Such an enchanting Halloween story! I mean could Billy Boston really have any other holiday story? No this one fits him with all his awesome wickedness. He is the last mohican of the single guys! I enjoyed watching him fall plus seeing more than just the party Billy was nice. But I do love the texting and talking with Nolan as it reminds me of the old times.
Family..ahhh what a delight!
This has all the charm and excitement I have come to expect in this series but with a Halloween flair! I enjoyed seeing the guys and the family again plus seeing just what kind of woman can handle Mr. Billy Boston!

SO CLEVER AND FUN

This is a unique break from a typical contemporary romance. Multiple elements of a Halloween theme are cleverly woven together—a geriatric nurse heroine with a stressful job, a haunted house, role-play, and confusion of the role play with reality. The haunting part is done in a theatrical way, and the role-play couldn't be any cuter. It was written with audio in mind so there are multiple accents and singing done by the narrators and done very well. You can't go wrong with this one if you think you'd like a lighthearted, mildly spooky, adult Halloween story.

No tricks, just treat yo’ self to this audio!

Billy Boston gets his own book and finally his own HEA! We met Billy in A Very Bossy Christmas and he’s always been “that guy” in all of the holidays since. He’s the guy that can be relied on for a good time and he’s always around when you need him. But Billy’s also got a heart as big as his personality and it’ll take a woman with a whole lot of moxie to be The One!

When I tell you the way I enjoyed Connor and Emma bringing this love story to life… ugh… *chef’s kiss*… what a wicked duo these 2 are!!

With Emma narrating Billy’s Lady Love Donna, we get her soft, charming tone that’s sweet but also sassy (and a little dirty)… and because we see so many cameos from the ladies we love from holidays past, we get to experience Emma’s ability to easily transition in and out of different accents AND the BEST PART… drum roll for effect… we get to hear her sing and it’s so touching and special, it’s my favorite part of the book!

As the sole male narrator of the Very Holiday series and a co-writer of this book, it is no surprise that this was a Grade A performance from Connor Crais and a masterclass in accents and narrating. You get to experience so many of those different accents right away in Chapter 1 but of course none were better than the Boston accent of one Billy O’Sullivan. And who knows Billy better than Connor does? What I enjoyed most from Connor was not only how funny and ridiculous Billy could be but that he still made Billy sound so sincere and genuine at the same time. You can truly feel how much he loves Donna and if he can’t take care of a situation himself, it’s cool because he knows a guy!

A Very No Strings Halloween is an absolute 5 star wicked awesome MUST LISTEN story, especially if you’re a fan of the KayCo writing and narrating we all know and love!!

Possibly My Favorite Ever!!

I’m so glad I listened to this book! I didn’t think I could pick a favorite, but this might be it. They’re all amazing, but the paranormal twist gave it an extra something. Now I want to go back and listen to them all.

Spooky romance FTW

This book is so fun. If you’ve followed Billy in the other stories, it is so satisfying to see his HEA.
