About this listen

A skilled painter must stand up to the ancient power of the faerie courts - even as she falls in love with a faerie prince - in this gorgeous debut novel.

Isobel is a prodigy portrait artist with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread, weave cloth, or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobel's paintings are highly prized. But when she receives her first royal patron - Rook, the autumn prince - she makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes - a weakness that could cost him his life.

Furious and devastated, Rook spirits her away to the autumnlands to stand trial for her crime. Waylaid by the Wild Hunt's ghostly hounds, the tainted influence of the Alder King, and hideous monsters risen from barrow mounds, Isobel and Rook depend on one another for survival. Their alliance blossoms into trust, then love - and that love violates the fair folks' ruthless laws. Now both of their lives are forfeit unless Isobel can use her skill as an artist to fight the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: For the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel.

An entertaining fae story

What did you love best about An Enchantment of Ravens?

I loved the concept of fae not being able to create anything, and that being a solely human power. It added an interesting element to the power dynamics between the two species.

What did you like best about this story?

The writing was gorgeous, very detailed and atmospheric. This made me very happy to round the rating up. The audiobook narrator did a fantastic job in this as well.

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

I thought that the main character was incredibly well portrayed by the narrator.

Any additional comments?

The romance was cute, but very cliché I must say, which made the plot pretty predictable. All the characters were very interesting and had strong voices.

Pleasantly Surprised

I purchased this after seeing it on a Youtuber's least liked books list. I didn't have high expectations for it. An Enchantment of Ravens, however, truly surprised me with it's beautiful prose and wonderfully crafted characters and plot.

Being a painter myself

I enjoyed this one. It was very cute, and creative. I liked the dynamic between the two main characters.

Amazing Fairy Tale

I have read this book and reread about 10 times, and I can never get enough of it. Really beautiful tale that points out a moral to the story. The main character is strong and level-headed and of course, strikingly beautiful and talented and the autumn Prince is everything you can imagine from a fairy Prince, handsome, full of himself and shallow until you look past the surface and his full personality blooms with his growing feelings that he is, of course fighting off and unsure of. An epic tale of blooming romance, funny and awkward encounters, and the true merit of humanity over the banal, soulless existence of immortality. I wish there were more to tell but the story really ends quite nicely. This has become my comfort read and I would love to see it as a movie 😊💜

Pleasantly romantic.

I enjoyed how the romance unfolded and the ending was exciting. I do wish however there were more of an epilogue that went into detail about the events afterward, and how they deal with the consequences of what happens in the end.

Exceptional.

I was wary to pick this book because it's not as long as the ones I usually read. I'm glad I gave it a listen! The writer does an excellent job with describing the world that she creates. There are twists and turns and adventure with a deeper meaning. I absolutely loved every minute of it and recommend to anyone who lives fantasy and inspiration. It was also the first book I have read where the artist is the main character and art is a huge part of the story. I'm an artist myself and the way she has passion for her craft is pretty spot on. I loved all of the characters, and the narrator.

Kept me enthralled

I rarely write book reviews because they’re hard to do justice without giving away the plot. But I love books about fairies that are done “realistically” and make you feel something. I must have magic and romance. And I must care about the characters. This book accomplished both. The narration was great, although Rook sounded a bit like an old man. Which he was but... Love book series like “ Thorn and Roses” series by S Maas, “The Folk of the Air” series by Holly Black. I ordered the only other book by this author and I hope it meets expectations.
