Publisher's summary

First published in 2012 as Occupy Space, Grady’s debut science-fiction novella inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement, about a group of amateur astronauts who lead a rescue mission to space.

Walter Reddie is a washed-up former astronaut who takes it upon himself to build a rocket ship to rescue his cousin, who is stuck on the International Space Station after a mission gone wrong. If America won’t rescue its astronauts, Walter will do it himself.

Violating numerous laws, common sense, logic, and reason, Walter Reddie becomes a lightning rod for people who aren’t ready to lay down and die just yet. His "redneck NASA" becomes the promised land for losers, drifters, rocket junkies, pyromaniacs, misfits, dreamers, science nerds, and astro-hippies who still believe that the future of America is in space. But chances are they’ll blow themselves up, get arrested, or kill each other before they ever get into low Earth orbit.

Dang it grady.

I was ready to dismiss this as a left handed work from a really good horror writer. But in the end it moves me and made me feel pride in a fictional found family. A filthy mouthed parabel dressed up in a short stories suit. Solid road trip read.

Loved this very fun you need space Jesus in your life. Narrator was great definitely captured the main characters gruff old man voice.

What a performance!

This reading was amazing 👏. Grady Hendrix has never disappointed me with his entertaining dialog and good writing. The narrator played this like a fiddle. I could not stop listening for 3.75 hrs.

Fun story with terrific narration!

This is the first work by Grady Hendrix I’ve read or listened too and I enjoyed it. The story starts a bit slow (my understanding is it’s a reissue of an earlier work), but I was drawn in. The narration by Ezra Buzzington elevated things for me quite a bit and made for an enjoyable experience overall.

Loved this until the ending

This would have easily been 5 stars if it weren’t for the ending. There is a minimum word count for reviews so even thought I wanted to exercise brevity I can’t. Thanks audible.

Such a fun story

The story was so fun and the narration truly made the experience. I wish Hendrix would write more short stories like this and I hope to hear the narrator much more!
