About this listen

Unravel the confusion of an ADHD diagnosis and discover how to cultivate deeper family ties amidst the chaos.

Have you ever felt the sting of strangers judging you as a "bad parent" because of how your child acts in emotionally difficult moments?

Are you trying to strike a balance between providing structure and rules for your child, while still giving them freedom to act like other kids?

Do you feel helpless and isolated because people around you don't understand the complexities involved in raising an ADHD child?

Parenting a child with ADHD is tremendously challenging, but your child also faces weighty struggles every day. Their difficulty regulating and expressing themselves is as frustrating for them as it is stressful for you.

But there is hope! An ADHD diagnosis does not mean failure is inevitable. There are many successful people with ADHD—Michael Phelps and Solange Knowles, for example. But to help your child reach their potential, you need practical guidance and emotional support to deal with the unique challenges of being an ADHD caregiver.

This audiobook will give you that guidance and support. You’ll discover:

  • The stigma-shattering truth about what actually causes ADHD
  • Details about ADHD and its far-reaching effects on every family member
  • How to construct a plan for managing emotions so your child can develop better self-control and achieve improved behavior
  • The difference between punishment and discipline—and how to guide your child’s behavior more positively
  • Insightful ways to bridge communication gaps and have less dramatic conflicts in your home

Navigating the challenges of life with ADHD is tough, but you don’t have to face them alone. If you want to explore more possibilities for reclaiming peace in your home and for finding the understanding and encouragement you crave, then you need this audiobook!

Good resource

As a mom of 2 ADHD kids, I am still constantly looking for resources to be able to help me. My daughter has shown signs of ADHD since she was 2 and she is now 17 so I've been doing this for 15 years. This book has good information to help those who are just starting out. ADHD is different for every child and when most people think of ADHD they think of only hyperactivity but that is not the case. ADHD overruns their emotions and makes it difficult for them to quickly regulate their emotions, be able to quickly retrieve information, rise and fall of dopamine boosts and so much more. I like that this author is trying to educate parents to help them understand what ADHD means and how they can use this information to help their household.

The book is not just for parents but also for anyone who has a loved one who has ADHD. Understanding who they are and how to best help them or accept them is key. ADHD can be a very lonely diagnosis as the diagnosis receives a lot of judgment from other parents who just think the kids are out of control and bad parenting. I am appreciative of the author for trying to help others understand our kids.

Essential Reading!

Having worked with teenagers with ADHD (and observed that some of their parents are managing their own ADHD), I appreciate what this book seeks to–and does–accomplish. If you have a child with ADHD or even suspect ADHD, you will find this book an incredible resource. The first half of the book discusses various aspects of ADHD, from what it is and myths to ways to recognize it at different ages and the effects it can have on the child, parents, and siblings. (It would be wonderful if people who think they know something about ADHD but have normative children would read this book, but that may be too much to wish for.)

The second half of the book provides specific, actionable advice on how to parent an ADHD child. Strategies include focusing on one task at a time, using trial and error to figure out what works, talking to your child about the process, and so much more. Helpfully, one chapter focuses entirely on behavioral interventions (discipline, not punishment) and another on dealing with the frustrations of emotional dysregulation, arguments, and the like. What makes this book so effective is that the author is a mother of an ADHD child who is sharing what she has learned. Thus, the book is not a technical book for medical practitioners nor is it a guide from a so-called expert without personal experience. It is clear how much the author has learned from research, experience, and other parents, and she shares her knowledge with supportive empathy.

Extremely helpful and Relatable!

This book was written by someone going through what I'm going through, it made it very real and relatable. I can not say enough about how this book has helped myself as an ADHD adult parenting ADHD children. As well as how it has helped my husband whom is not ADHD parent our kids.

Ameliorate the frenetic with compassion

Rubye Marshal delivers all of the compassion that parents have been looking for when it comes to raising our families (with things like ADHD) in the kind of environment that they truly need.

Us parents know the emotional turmoil that kicks in when our little ones act out (especially in public!). I can recall a time of my little one causing a ruckus outside of a frozen yogurt shop because I wouldn’t give him a sugary treat before dinner, LOL!

All laughs aside, it can be incredibly overwhelming, especially taking into account the varieties of behavioral factors such as ADHD. Which is why I am personally eternally grateful for authors such as Rubye Marshal (with really fantastic narration from Abigail langham, I might add), who are bringing pragmatic solutions to the various behavioral traits becoming more prominent in the zeitgeist of mental health care in recent years.

We discover groundbreaking info such as, the roots of these conditions, helpful and mindful familial interactions, effective discipline, and so much more.

Excellent for ADHD Definition!

Excellent reading for enhancing the knowledge of ADHD for both kids and adults. This even gives explanations of why certain myths are simply not true. How certain behaviors can actually be due to anxiety and the inability to cope with an influx of information and how emotions can reel out of control as a result. This information was super helpful in my beginning to understand the condition. I didn't realize there are three types of ADHD, but this book describes each one and how to recognize them - also how to deal with it. It also gives tips on how to manage this condition over a lifetime. Even if your not around someone with ADHD, it's a very good source for learning what it is and how to deal with it. I highly recommend it for everyone.
