About this listen

Though Alison McKenzie lives near beauty-obsessed Beverly Hills, she's fine being a Plain Jane. But her mother Anne believes beauty is the key to success. So when Alison suffers a burn, Anne takes her to a plastic surgeon. The surgeon says he can not only take care of the scar but can make her beautiful. Anne is enchanted by his promises, and by him. As a romance blooms, Alison's transformation begins.

Then Alison finds a picture of the doctor's first wife and notices a resemblance to the work he's doing on her. Anne insists there's no resemblance, but Alison discovers that her now stepfather's first wife committed suicide after being disfigured in an accident - and that the woman had not always been beautiful; when he married her, she was as plain as Alison.

Finally she discovers that at the time of the dead woman's original surgery, there was a series of killings in the area, and each of the victims had one feature or another that bore a great resemblance to those of the surgeon's first wife. Now, there is a similar series of killings going on, and finally Alison understands. But is it too late?

Love John Saul

Love this book but the summary is way off. Wrong names and some wrong info on the plot. However the book is great. I love John Saul. He is one of the best authors out there and I'm looking forwarded to more books.

good story

I really enjoyed this book, although, the publishers summary is not quite true to the book. You think you've got it figured out an then something changes and points you in another direction. Narrator did a good job.

Awsome!

I love John Saul, listened to this book during a road trip and found it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Had another person listen in on the later half of the book and was totally thrilled with this murder mystery. The wording and suspense that was created was awsome and will love to enjoy more of his books!

Not Saul's best work

Although it was nice to see Saul getting away from his recurring theme of children being the antagonists, and using modern technology and themes (such as MySpace) in the story, this is not his best work. It is full of shallow characters that few will be able to identify with, living in a world where silicon enhancements are more common than eyeglasses. The description must have been based on what Saul thought the book would be about before it was actually written, as it is very different from what actually occurs (even the names are mostly wrong). Also, the author really comes out of the closet on this one, so if that bothers you, you may want to skip it.

An Average Saul Book

John Saul comes up with such great books that just seem to fall flat at the end. This isn't a horrible book, it is however a bit too far fetched. This story had the potential to be better but never rose above mediocre.

Awful

First of all, the description does not match the book. The story is hollow, implausible and just down right silly. Do not watse your time.
