About this listen

Charlie Naylor used to work in an office where he pushed paper, filled in spreadsheets, and made coffee. Now, he casts, conjures, stabs, and tames.

When the demigods take over the home of the gods, Charlie finds himself hunted, and he and his friends - a half-gnome, a giant rat, the god of corn, and an old mage - must find somewhere safe.

But can he survive when he crash-lands on a planet and finds himself pitted against a paranoid god and his army of dragons, a world of deadly creatures, and interplanetary pirates?

Loved it!

I have not listened to the previous book, but felt that the story her stands on its own. Although I am curious and will go back and listen to the first one. A well done storyline, with very likable characters. The narration is well done. Highly recommend to those who like fantasy, magic, dragons and the like.

Kinda a let down.

I’ve never been a big fan of when the main character becomes the sidekick and is kind of just struggling throughout the entire story. Always asking why why why am just not pushing

Enjoyable fantasy novel.

Let me start by saying that the 2nd book in this series is certainly not a Lit RPG it is more of a regular fantasy novel. There is no stat or power leveling at all in this book which for some could be a plus or a minus depending on what you like.

The universe this book takes place in is interesting and seems like it has a lot of potential considering all the different types of worlds it could take place on and being filled with Gods, Demi Gods and other cool characters. The main character Charlie, seems like a nice guy and seems brave enough but felt a bit weak and useless for most of this book with a few exceptions and some of the other characters didn't seem like they had much to do in this book as compared to the previous one.

The narration by J. Scott Bennett was solid and keeps you interested in the story. If you like more family friendly/young adult fantasy novels this one will be good for you, as far as straight Lit RPG fans it may be a disappointment but I would expect more Lit RPG elements in the future novels as I think one of the major plot points of the book is what kept all the leveling of stats in this one so unless that carrys over to other novels in the series there will probably be a return to form.

Battle of god and demigods continue

A god, specifically the god of corn, and his champion must flee from the demigods and their servants to grow a power base and allies to battle them with. They are forced into a partnership with a demigod whose loyalties are questionable. They are stuck on a planet whose god has gone mad through a sick and twisted form of worship. Where will it all lead and what secrets will be revealed? Well you will just have to Lauren or read to find out. Well written and fantastically narrated. couldn't get into it

I received this book free of charge for an honest review. didn't get the first book before hand so I have no idea what's going on and a had to give up. seemed like a decent story but without the background I was lost and lacked the interest to start with the first.

A different direction from the previous book.

Gone is the everyman from the first book replaced by what feels to be a powerless child puppet in a grown mans body for the majority of the book he appears to be suffering from a case of performance anxiety for the most part. While we do get to see a return of the everyman for the last chapter or so of the book it was a long road to get there even the supporting characters from the first book don't play much of a role in this and it feels like all of the characters kind of just get dragged along for the ride. We didn't get the world building I was hoping for but again the book ends with hints and promises of more world building and the book has even lost it's LitRPG element entirely with no more levels or stat sheets. It's saving grace is that the book is still written in the format of classic fiction of the early to mid 1900s which works nicely with the environment, characters and story overall. The narrator J. Scott Bennett does the same great job he did with the first book increasing the books already family friendly feel with his performance the kind that makes the reader feel like they are sitting in a public library listening or similar venue listening to a story teller. Honestly I really wanted to like this book but it just wasn't for me however I think it would be a great book to share with a younger audience especially as a bed time story or something along those lines as I can easily picture a younger person becoming enthralled in the adventure of it with a "What happens next?" kind of awe and the change from the everyman main character of the first book to what he is in this book makes that character even more relatable to a younger audience.

Spells & Dragons, Oh My!!

I requested this audio because of the narrator, J. Scott Bennett, who has become one of my top 10. Though not my genre, I always up for a new adventure. The MC Charlie is a likable character, but I really enjoyed his companions.

More fantasy than LitRPG

This second book in the Blademage series does not have much gamer type content and the magic system was a little confusing, but I still enjoyed listening to it. The narrator did a good job of giving the characters individual personalities and keeping you engaged. The universe the story takes place in has potential, with many different types of planets, creatures, gods and demigods, but in this book the storyline seemed all over the place and the main character, Charlie, appeared weak and confused for much of the story. More of a fantasy tale than LitRPG, this story has dragons, pirates, magic, a mad god and some likable characters.
