Publisher's summary

Alek Fitz is the lead reaper for Valkyrie Collections, an agency that gathers debts for the paranormal elements of the world. Bound into modern-day slavery by a contract he cannot break and sold by parents he never knew, Alek works alongside demons, spirits, witches, and even Death himself to collect on deals made with humanity.

When Alek is forced to take a job from a local vampire hunting down a runaway thrall, he is immediately thrust into a world of blackmail and backstabbing, where the rules are nothing more than an inconvenience to ancient supernatural predators. For the first time, Alek has more to fear from his clients than from his debtors.

But Alek is the best in the business. It’ll take more than a vampire lord to keep a good reaper down.

Hilarious and a little sideways

Another fabulous book from McClellan! I can't get enough of these Alec Fitz stories. They are funny, a little twisted, the plots slant and slip, then smack you in the face. It is fabulous. 100% reccomend for giggling in the office and garnishing odd stares from your coworkers.

Dig these books

What can I say? I dig the books. Daniels performs well and brian writes well. I’ll listen to sequels.

Another great listen

Really nice story, love he world building and the characters.

I was super excited to hear Luke Daniels here, but couldn't help but hear Ada in Oberon's voice... I am super sorry but this takes away any scary factor Ada has in the book, i mean its i keep hearing "You will respect my authori-tah!" every time Ada speaks. It is super funny but as i said takes away from the character.

Luke Daniels is really good, every time he reads something he gives so much more depth to the characters, but this one was a bit below his usual best.

The sorry itself is really good, world building extraordinary and the world itself is fascinating. Can't wait to get the next one and see how Alek deals with his contract or with his new plastic knee.

Great series BUT..

First of all I can tell you if I'd paid attention to the number of pages and how many hours of listening on audible I would never have bought this. I mean, $13.50 for the Kindle and the audible is way too much for 176 pages. So, I won't be continuing with this series.

Other than that I really like Alek and Maggie, his jinn ring. This was mostly about vampires and Alek's hatred of them, even though he had to work with them, before he, Maggie and his new friend Eddie, the Sphinx, killed them all.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 49 times.

As for the narration: Luke Daniels is simply wonderful! Every person has their own voice and his expressions are great.

I want the next one right now!

This book is so much fun! I loved the first Valkyrie Collections book which introduced Alek the reaper. This second book is even more fun than the first. I snickered and laughed out loud multiple times. Eddie absolutely steals the show and you can’t help but root for Alek and Olivia. I’ve only listened to these two books by Brian McClellan but now I’m considering trying more of his work. Narrator Luke Daniels is a professional who never turns in a poor performance. He nails the voices and I love the fact he throws so much emotion and action into the story rather than just reading it. This was a great break from reality and I will be waiting most impatiently for the next installment of Valkyrie Collections.

Non stop action

I loved the first book in the series, and this one was every bit as good or better. Alec's conflicts gave the plot more depth, and Olivia and Eddie were great additions.

A fair bit of cringe but entertaining

The intriguing world building does most the leg work. A bit shorter than expected too.

Blood tally is bloody awesome

Even with the shorter length of these books, I would pay a full credit for book 3, if only it existed. And folks, that’s saying something because I am cheap.

This is urban fantasy with the perfect balance of humor and heart, action and mystery, familiar and new. Book 2 features vampires and a GD witch, yet still breaks new ground with a clever mystery involving thralls. I love the ongoing dynamic of Alek, Maggie, and Ada. But, my favorite part about book 2 is the addition of some engaging, and hopefully recurring characters. From a GD witch to a rock golem and a tuna loving sphinx, this group has the makings of the best Scooby Gang of mystery solving misfits ever.
