About this listen

Tech investor and new mom Leslie Schrock offers a thoroughly modern guide to pregnancy - from the preparations of “trimester zero” to the challenges of the newborn months.

In the last 30 years, the process of starting a family has drastically changed. Not only are there many more options for getting pregnant, but there are a dizzying array of variables from start to finish. Genetic test or no genetic test? Midwife or OB-GYN? Stroller or Baby Bjorn?

Yet all this choice can also create anxiety, especially around the most difficult realities. Miscarriages and fertility issues are common, yet often concealed. One in nine mothers report dealing with postpartum depression, but it is rarely acknowledged and even more rarely treated. Celebrities post “snap-back” photos of their slim post-baby bodies, creating unrealistic expectations for women everywhere. We have more information than ever, yet nearly every aspect of motherhood is still shrouded in judgment and mystery.

Enter Leslie Schrock, first-time mother whose own struggles opened her eyes to this widespread problem. With the frank, funny warmth of a trusted friend, she delves into everything from in vitro fertilization and prenatal testing to lactation consultants and postpartum birth control. She debunks the most pervasive pregnancy myths, explores the complementary practices, and cites the latest science (with a dash of been-there-done-that experience) to help you make the best decisions every step of the way - for both you and your baby.

So tune out all of the noise you don’t need, and take control of your pregnancy - present or future.

Simple and thoughtful

Neatly organized, helpful, and not full of “fluffy” or sentimental prenatal advice. The only thing I personally struggled with was the author’s birth story - I should’ve skipped listening to that part. Everything else was valuable and easily digestible. I appreciated having this resource during my first pregnancy

Basic

While the book is very well written, I found it to be pretty basic. There was no in depth details about pregnancy body and all the changes that will occur. I don’t know, maybe it just wasn’t what I was expecting or maybe because I’m almost 40 my knowledge is beyond this book, but I found it to be underwhelming. Now, if I were 20, 21, 22, would I have a different opinion? Probably.

Truly enjoyed listening to this book throughout my pregnancy.
I learned many things and it helped me navigate all of the information and opinions on pregnancy topics I have come across during my 9 month journey.

Super informative and interesting

I enjoyed this book on many levels! As a first time mom struggling with anxiety around pregnancy and birth, this was incredibly valuable to me. I was searching for an informative book that wasn’t What to Expect When You’re Expecting and this blew my expectations out of the water. My only issue is that if I had the physical book, I would have access to the PDF pages they mention throughout.

Enjoyable listen!

As someone who is contemplating having a baby, I found this book to be informative. I think this is a helpful listen for someone who is trying to conceive or in the very early stages of pregnancy to give you an overview of what the entire 9 month and postpartum process looks like.

Everything for before, during, and after pregnancy

amazing pregnancy book! wonderfully informative but not overwhelming perfect balance of statistics, professional review, and personal story. the only downfall was it ended too soon. at the end of the book, I wanted more, not for lack of information but because it was so good.

To the point

To the point, quick and easy to get through. Good place to start. I liked that the author read some parts it seemed more personal and I liked the contrast between her and the narrator going over the informative parts.

Very helpful!

There are several sections that I’ll go back and listen to again. Grateful for authors that keep it real and answer questions that I have but didn’t even put into words yet!

very good listen!

I love how it comes from both perspectives from the doctors and from the author. I think that's very important. I also think it's very important to be able to listen to something that doesn't sound condescending and this most absolutely does not sound condescending at all. I think new Moms to be will love it as I have loved it myself!
