The DREAM TEAM of MONING, GIGANTE AND ROSS

NO SPOILERS
This is a BURNED and FEVER SERIES REVIEW

If you think Burned is book 2 in the Dani O'Malley series you are only partially right, truth be told this is book 7 in "The Fever" series. You can read "Burned" if you have only read "Iced" however it is rather like mono sound compared to a room of surround sound at full volume the intensity of Burned is magnified a hundred fold if you read the entire series ...recently...for first time or again.

What makes Burned 5 stars Plus:

Burned answers some of the questions unanswered at the end of Shadow Fever. Ms. Monings genius is apparent in the clever manner we as listeners gain a "unique" insight into Dani, Barrons, Riodan and others of the Nine. The maturation of Dani and her backstory as well as her unexpected plot twist that is guaranteed to blindside you. The myriad of side stories in development in this epic saga as well as the cliffhanger that will leave you screaming NO! not yet I want more!... all are text book Ms, Moning.

The Audible Dream Team: Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross

Phil Gigante is Jericho Barrons I cannot emphasize this strongly enough it is actually painful to listen to the first three books in the Fever series without Mr. Gigante characterization of Barrons and others, I mean really, can you say testosterone!. Natalie Ross has nailed Mac and Dani as well as her other characterizations of sassy, snarky, steamy and the pure female evil ... I beg of you Audible please redo the first 3 books of the Fever series with this Dream Team....Please! The impact this male and female duo is brilliance personified.

Who should read Burned?

Anyone who is not offended by the f word it is used a lot! Anyone who has read and/or reread the first 6 books in this Fever Series, Burned more than Iced is greatly enhanced by a revisit to this complicated, brutal pre and post apocalyptic society of hero's and villain's. Anyone who enjoys character evolution, plot twist, turns and being totally blindsided by a plot 180, .Anyone who enjoys fantasy at it's finest, fairies, gods and goddesses, magic and super powers and... Monsters. Anyone who doesn't mind their sex read hot and spicy with just a little kink...well maybe a lot of kink.

The Fever Series Genre:

In no particular order of significance. It's Fantasy, Romance, Suspense, Mystery, Horror, Erotica.... It's a Wild Epic Ride! with STAY TUNED at the end of every sequel and the listener screaming NO.... F...!

Not a Dani book

I felt Mac and Baron's story was finished with the last Fever book, and "Iced' was to be a spin off series that would wrap around different characters (Dani, Riodan, Dancer, and Christian). I loved "Iced" and developed a big soft spot in my heart for Dani, that I never had in the Fever books. I was disappointed in this book, with the path chosen for Dani and the small part she played. Basically, this was a Mac book (which isn't a bad thing) in itself, but I felt it ruined "Iced", and the kid that stole the show.

Loved It

Would you listen to Burned again? Why?

yes, too much to catch the first time around.

What did you like best about this story?

all the convergence of the story lines. It really started to create some cohesion.

Which scene was your favorite?

Lore and Joe were discovered. That needed to happen to evolve Joes character. I liked Lore in the first books then hated him in the first part of this one. When I had made my decision about his character in this one, he pleaded with Mac to allow him time as prya. He sounded like a little boy asking for more time to play outside. He was an a** again when Joe came in, then he caught me again when he fell for her. Ok I am firmly in Lore's camp.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All the moments where Rioden was anguishing over Dani. He loves her on so many different levels.

Any additional comments?

I loved it!!! I have read and reread every one of Karen’s books. Burned plugs all the holes that were left by the fever series. Some of this stuff should have been included in Shadowfever. I love that mac is back, the series needs her character; however I think that Dani did not play a big enough part in this book. She was relegated to a supporting character. I hope the next book develops her character more and brings her back to front and center. The two story lines of Cat and Joe, deserve their own books. It would be cool to see their books within the parallel time line. I think the richness of that dimension would outweigh any confusion it may cause. I think if anyone can do it Karen can. Great read and if you are in love with the Moning books like I am, you will love this book.

Wow!

As all the other books in this series, more questions left unanswered. Hopefully we won't have to wait 2 more years for the next book.

Huh?! What happened? The end seriously! ?

It was an exceptional performance. ..PG and NR always nail their charachters... the story kinda lagged not much happening and then it just fell off a cliff ...poof! ! over!!! I like a good cliff hanger but that was a cliff dive!!! not cool!

page ripper

Where does Burned rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a pretty high ranking book audiobook in my library collection, and going further into this question this is the 7th book in the fever series I've devour so far. and in that regard it ranks pretty high too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I have a soft spot for The Sidhe Seer Dani or Ryodan (don't think i spelled either of their names correctlY)

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

overall I think the narrators did a really good job, I don't see any room for improvement in this area. I was happy that there were a male and female reading this book instead of a male imitating a high falsetto or a female hitting low baritone voice. I was even more appreciative that each character had their own inflection

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes there was laughter no tears this time around. though the author is capable of making me do that.

Any additional comments?

can't wait to jump into Feverborn, Book 8 (next up and running sequel)
