Great for motivation

Teens already have the challenge of having to do well in school, and it is an additional challenge for them if they participate in competitive sports. Growing up, I was fortunate that I didn't really feel the pressure when I participated in sports as it was more of a fun activity for me. However, I recognize that it is not the same for everyone, and this book is a great guide for teen athletes so they can have confidence and better focus in playing their sport. This mental toughness will not only help them when they play but also in their education and even in their future career. The support of parents as well in important and plays a big part in their success. This book is a must-listen for both the young athlete and their parents; I recommend it!

Your Secret Weapon!

This book showed me how my brain can be my worst enemy or best weapon. Using the techniques to master 7 key mental skills will allow me to harness my brain to always come out a winner.

I liked how the author pointed out that sports are games of losing more than winning but by leveraging my mental strength I can beat physical strength.

Phenomenal!

If you are a parent like I am with kids who are really into sports, then you know the pain of watching your kid crumble under the pressure and not be able to perform at their top athletic abilities. Its crushing to watch, and there were times I felt powerless to help. This audiobook has really made a very significant difference. My sons and I listen to this in the car and it has definitely had an effect. The boys are realizing, through listening to these relevant and interesting stories and examples that in addition to their physical strengths, they need to develop mental strength. My kids did not really buy into this at first, but as we started to get into these stories I noticed they started to talk amongst them selves, comparing stories in this audiobook to real-life situations they had been in! I was so impressed and relieved. Great audiobook!

I WAS NOT Confident Clutch Calm, NOW I can be!

First: I would like to say as an avid Audio Book listener, this is the BEST author read book I have listened to. Valerie Alston was passionate about her subject and made the material easy and enjoyable to follow.

Second: I am Not confident, clutch or calm. My mental toughness was non-existent. I am also Not a high school athlete or even good at my sport. I am a senior citizen trying to become an accomplished pickleball player. I needed help. I first read Valerie Alston's printed book and it helped me immensely. I now can mentally attack the game and be confident that I will be a better player every time I hit the court. I now love that I can listen in the car to her book for tips I need to refresh.
I especially liked the pregame routine and pre-shot mantra for my serve that she suggests. And the way she teaches to get rid of negative self talk. There is nothing " I can't do YET. "

Unique book on helping with Mental Toughness

this is a needed book for young people in sports. Often the greatest component of lower results when participating in sports derives from self confidence or lack of it. I like that this book breaks down these elements that inhibit us from doing the very thing we seem to excel at in practice situations. Game stress is real! Thank you for laying out things as improvement on consistency, how to better controls emotions and you provide ways to exercise and build inner strength and mental toughness.
