Publisher's summary

When the world ends, humanity must fight to survive—but where others struggle in fear, Will sees only an opportunity to thrive.

April 3rd, 3:46 AM. Planet Earth merges with the magical world of Arcadia, and a system gives humanity a choice: 40 years of indentured servitude, or entering a tutorial as a user to fight against the chaos incursion.

Will doesn't hesitate—but the system thanks him for stepping into the fight by throwing him into an impossible tutorial. With little chance of survival, Will has a simple response: “Screw it. Might as well fight fire with fire."

Warning: [Corruption] has been chosen as primary attribute.

With a forbidden element, Will just might be able to stab his way out of the tutorial. But as he gains the powers of death and space as well, he realizes that his problems might not only lie in the monsters that now plague the world.

Will, now Earth's sole corruption wielder, finds danger at every corner. For anyone else, that could mean a quick and terrifying end. To him?

Maybe Will was meant for this world.

Perfect for fans of Defiance of the Fall, System Universe, and He Who Fights With Monsters—don't miss the start of the hit litRPG apocalypse series with a million views on Royal Road!

it's like HWFWM and Primal hunter had a baby

Will is definitely a character to talk about, get thrown into a tutorial and immediately have errors let's not forget the racist elves and the gods that wants to play games. there is no sad I can't kill people trope with this dude he accepts what he got to do and.... well you will see when you read it

Wow!

This story started out your standard apocalyptic LitRPG but then went off on a powers and skills tangent that includes corruption as a power/element.
Of course the MC gets it and it's a taboo power but the MC has to be the best. Right?
This is not a spicy or harem book.
Great story.
I'm giving this book 7.5 out of 5 stars.

Loved it!!

This was a great story. I loved how the “assistant” interacted with him, and how he just went all in. I hate indecisive people (because I am one) so this was a great read for me! Pick your way quickly and go for it!

Really good!

This definitely has an HWFWM vibe mainly the ranks and how to progress in power and honestly a more likeable MC. the story was entertaining and fun and would definitely recommend to fan of the genre

pretty good with good choices

Most books like this go all romance when having side characters but this one so far didnt.

a lot also take so long that even the tutorial can take a whole book or more. This one didnt.

Lots of flaws other litrpg books have this one didnt.

Good pacing. good power progression with ability to evolve elements later.

A big bad that is undefined without it being some impossible odd stuff from the start.

All in all pretty good. Perhaps the MC is a bit assertive take charge with giving others a choice but it's a more hes doing his own thing and people can follow or leave , no care attitude.

Enjoyable for the most part…

A little from Jason Asano abilities and then some of the mentality of Zachary Atwood while still being its own thing… would be the easiest and shortest way to describe it.
I had issues at different points with enjoying my time listening to it from getting bored during the beginning. However, once the tutorial ended, I really began to enjoy the experience. I plan to probably go back through the book once the second book comes out for which I’ll endeavor to try to be more patient. The MC developed both mentally and through power progression pretty steadily. The power progression system was interesting and pretty straightforward. I am thankful that the power progression wasn’t as slow as most serried. While also being concerned that this won’t be that long of a series if they progress too quickly…
I believe the narrators gave a good performances for bringing the characters and the story to life.

A big meh from me

This is going to be incredibly hit or miss for most readers, I imagine. For me, it read the latter.

Most authors impart a bit of themselves into their stories, but this book basically screamed in my ear that it was written by a struggling college student, or one that's recently graduated. When Will started joking about the evils of capitalism, I only rolled my eyes, but combine it with everything else and the fourth wall started to crumble.

Again, that's not necessarily bad, it was just bad for me. That, combined with Will's incredibly cringe humour had me not liking him from almost the beginning.

I'm also not typically sensitive about such things, but how many cartoonishly evil, poorly written, racist white people do I have to endure before my eyebrows disappear into my non-existent hairline?

On its own, not a big deal, but I'm trying to paint a picture of the collecting. This book just feels like it's written by someone I'd find incredibly annoying, and I'm constantly being reminded of that fact.

Ironically, I felt similarly about He Who Fights With Monsters, which this is very similar to. Thankfully, it doesn't seem like Will runs around with a legendary soapbox in his inventory, so it's already better than that story.

A lot of people love this kind of thing though, so again, hit or miss. Hopefully my review will open your eyes before going in.

Finally, I normally don't ding narrators and find them mostly, at worst, okay. This one makes the incredibly baffling decision to make several of the character's voices horrifically unlistenable, none most
moresp than his friend that would make Eeyore sound like the life of the party...

He who fights with monsters

If you like the magic system and same class. This might be for you. Narration is ok, there was some repeats, not edited well. While author copied a lot, he added his own spice and world building. Overall not good not bad, just ok.
