About this listen

Sam was surfing with his cat when the world ended.

Suddenly enlisted into a battle to fend off annihilation, Sam seizes the strength of the void to survive.

In the aftermath, Sam is thrown into a new world shattered into floating islands with survivors from Earth. Training and fighting with his giant sword and apocalyptic mana alongside his magical healer cat, Sam's unusually quick to adapt to this deadly realm of monsters and magic.

With endless threats to face and countless powers to attain, Sam's journey of ascension climbing has only just begun.

But first, he'll have to forge a legend of his own.

Blending slice-of-life with epic fantasy action, cultivation, mystery, layer/tower climbing, dungeon delving, kingdom building, and intricate magic systems, this LitRPG/GameLit series is a perfect fit for listeners who enjoy exploring richly detailed worlds, complex characters, and an ever-evolving struggle for the protagonists to make a home in their new world.

Fun Listen

This was a fun listen. Sometimes it got to be a lot of info dump, but the characters were well rounded. There was only one thing that sort of bothered me. Toward the end one of the characters voices changed into another's. It pulled me out just a little, but and only happened for two lines. Overall good story, fun characters, and enjoyable. Will be getting the others in the series.

Soooo many stats overview

I am just at 20 chapter. But I swear that it starts to feel like author uses stat overview as word counter to hit minimum word count for a book or something. Having it even twice in 1 chapter is just overkill, and having one after each level up without much change is overkill too!!!

A good start, looking forward to seeing where the author goes.

Pretty good as a whole, I feel this is an upgrade to the authors other beastborn series. So far the main character hasn't gotten too OP, it has a better pacing, and world building elements then that other series. Agree with other reviews of too many stat overviews being used in the chapters. I am cautiously optimistic to get the follow up titles in the future.

Choppy start, story had trouble getting going

The concepts were interesting.

The introduction was disjointed and hard to follow. The magic system was not bad. It is definitely Apocalypse LitRPG. I didn't like the floating islands mixed with the shards of reality concepts.

The main character has a hard time or is over powered from one sentence to the next. The progression just is too imbalanced for my tastes.

The narrator did a fine job.

Good and different

Different from most LITRPG in that the targeted world isn’t a direct analogue. Floating islands.

While MC is OP, lots of bad stuff happens to him and those around him.

While most stories make things a cake walk, this MC seems to struggle. Also the isn’t cringe when the bad guys are bad. You don’t feel like they were being evil to fit the story. There’s back story to help suggest this person wasn’t good to begin with.

4 stars. Joe Bob says check it out.

Up there with some of my favorites.

A great book with a fun story. I recommend it highly if you’re a fan of combat.

kinda weird start

The start was kinda off in terms of progression. seems a bit like the author wanted a really cool fight as a hook, but it was mostly confusing.

A man and his cat and his ghost

The plot is similar to other progression fantasies where mundane Earth and other magical worlds are catastrophically blended with humans having to learn to level up or die. Still, the protagonist is interesting and starts out as a, seemingly, slacker working in a dead-end job. As he and his co-workers and companions are thrust in the new environment ... a new beginning is forced on them all, with the MC reluctantly at first, but begins to take on leadership qualities that had not surfaced before. There is some intrigue and backstabbing that takes place and it is interesting how the authors mold each character based on their hidden personalities when on Earth.

Luke Daniels does a a fine job on mimicking the voices of the humans but his cat voice is a too gruff to find interesting.

I look forward to the next book.
