About this listen

Zane was driving home from work when the world changed.

Thousands of dungeons spawned at once, taking up every inch of Earth—including the road he’s driving on. He wakes up to a totaled car and a broken leg, facing down a goblin trying to spear him through the guts. And that's just the start of it.

But to Zane’s surprise, he finds himself enjoying this brutal new world. While others cower and hide, he goes on the hunt. He unlocks a unique Berserker skill—the more damage he takes, the stronger he gets.

Soon he’s beating down monster hordes, solo clearing dungeons, unlocking powerful Skills, and striking out to conquer more and more.

It turns out Zane was born to fight. And in this new world rife with terrible monsters and awesome powers alike, where opportunity is anyone’s for the taking, he’ll thrive.

An action-packed blend of LitRPG Apocalypse and Xianxia with 2 million views on Royalroad. Perfect for fans of Defiance of the Fall, The Primal Hunter, and Road to Mastery!

Not OP

Being OP is someone who doesn’t struggle at all and all battles are trivial to the point of being funny. This is not it. MC is not OP because there are plenty who are stronger then him. Instead he is driven and focused and likes fighting and progressing. A good book.

Pleasantly surprised by how good this was

I've listened to hundreds of litrpg, system and cultivation audiobooks.

This one gave me exactly what I wanted. A murder hobo with a heart. Grabbing the next as soon as it comes out.

standard good

if u like first defier and primal hunter, ull like this book. pretty much a mesh of the two. first book is a bit unoriginal. doesn't start getting good till the end. but I enjoyed it. hoping the first book is just the tip and there's a good amount of character building and quirky characters in the second. worth the credit if ur into this genre, which I am.

unapologetic

This is a story you have heard before, but what is different is that it is unapolegetic about embracing the carnage that an event like this would create. I listen to books in the Litrpg genre to be transported to a world where the rules are changed, morality is changed, society is changed, etc. So I am consistently frustrated with authors who deem it necessary to inject contemporary moral and societal values to a violent post apocalyptic ruinscape. So many times have I read the summary of a book, become excited at the prospect, then only be let down by an author who seems to believe that a world such as one they are creating would be a terrible thing and an MC must be an example of someone caught in this terrible event, acknowledge how terrible it is and then be a beacon to bring upright social justice and fairness back into the situation. This book is not that. This wonderful example of the litrpg genre embraces the change, revels in the violence, and makes no issue out of having a more traditional view on what it takes to not only succeed in a world like this, but enjoy the suck. Thank you to an author that hasn't been bullied by the Woke, cajoled into confusing men and women, and depicting an MC (who definitely has clinical sociopathy, but don't we all?) who is a good man, and will help, but not at a hindrance to him living his best life and killing s**t. Thank you for this. Thank you, you brave soul.

For those who like defiance of the fall

If you like defiance the fall, I believe you would like this book. If you started defiance of the fall and stopped halfway through the series like I did, I still think you would like this book. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the it, the mc is enjoyable to follow And the story is compelling. The MC starts out as sort of a flat character, but as the story goes, you start to understand him much better through his actions. I can’t wait to see where the story goes!

actually likeable protagonist

Kept my interest the entire time. Protagonist is internaly consistent and likeable. Worth it if you like progression fantasy based of peristant effort.

Fascinating story but an overpowered MC

I enjoyed this book incredibly. I do wish that the MC would lose a bit more. He does challenge himself and keeps getting stronger throughout the book. We just need to make sure there are more opponents that actually defeat or almost defeat him. It seems too easy for him.

Regardless, I’m buying the every one as soon as they are available. Which needs to be asap.

One last note, the pronunciation of local place names is atrocious. I live in the PNW, and it’s hard to listen to the butchery. The performer needed to have looked up how to say Puget Sound most especially.
