About this listen

Two expanding interstellar powers are about to meet in battle. After the collapse of the Cephalopod Kingdom, Humanity claimed the 300 rebellious worlds it left behind. But many light years away on the far side of a disputed region, a rival power has begun to move. They're stealing our planets, one at a time. Earth Command decides to invade the center of the frontier to set up an advanced base.

The mission to DARK WORLD is highly classified and deadly. Legion Varus spearheads the effort, and James McGill journeys to the stars again. How many ships do they have? How advanced is their tech?

No one knows, but the campaign takes an unexpected turn immediately. What was supposed to be a snatch-and-grab turns into a bloodbath. McGill dies over and over again, but some battles must be won, even if it means perma-death.

not the best in the series

story felt a little lazy compare to the other books. excellent performance as usual. the setup for the next story has great potential and i will excuse this book if that turns out to be the case. love the series.

You really get attached to the series

Entertaining and humourous characters, excellent writing. Can't wait to see what mess "Mcgill" steps into.

James McGill

Every time a new book in the series comes out it makes my day. And I say that because it takes me about one day to listen to the book. One of the best authors and definitely one of the best narrators… And for sure one of the best characters in this genre. If there was a book that came out every week on James McGill I would buy it. Please keep them coming!

Still entertaining

Usually this far into a series it is so repetaive you already know the next line. This still stays fresh. New enemies begin to close in.

It’s so dark on here. I can’t see.

Another great book of the series. Claver is doing Claver things. Etta is doing Etta things. James is doing James things. In addition to these three uncontrollable and unconventional in their own way characters, the characters of the top brass are also having their own lil political skirmishes. It’s also great to see how the new alien races (the Squids and the Blood Worlders) are integrating into the army, although I do wish for Hames to actually befriend an alien at some point. Not a Blood Worlder but an actual alien like the Squids or something else. Bonus points if the alien tags along throughout the series. James has been very “kind” and “protective” of many of the various aliens that he’s come into contact with or at least more then most of his Legion so I’d really like him to become actual buddies with one. All in all I’m currently downloading the next book.

Skipped book 8, didn’t miss a thing

As many other reviewers say, this series is getting repetitive but I still keep coming back for some reason. However, I did a little experiment and skipped book 8, just to see if I’d miss anything. And sure enough, I was totally fine. BV mentioned a detail or two from the previous book that was relevant but otherwise McGill and everyone else had the same rank, everything was the same. Still, I keep listening….

Next I’m going to skip a few books lol. I really like the world BV has created, and I even like the characters. I just wish he would actually move the plot along.

Keep dying James; we are here for it!

The character development in this series is top-notch! Every entry is like coming home and hanging out with old friends; if your home is an incredibly violent, blood soaked alien landscape, and your friends are narcissistic, emotionally damaged assholes. I just can't get enough of James and his band of misfit killers!
