About this listen

Don't mess with Timothy.

He might seem like your average chipmunk who loves seeds, sunbathing, and enjoying a quiet life in the suburbs. But after new neighbors move in and wreak havoc, they will have to come face to face with his wit and resourcefulness.

The last straw is that the new neighbors keep calling him Chip. Convincing all manner of rodents and other small wildlife to work together, Timothy launches an assault against their invasive neighbors.

Based on a true character, this audiobook is a clean, fun listen for eight-grade reading level and over.

Ugh the voice was just not for me. I felt it was part mobster part hoodlum. Letting my grandkids listen to it next to see if they have a better reaction. Reminded me of a movie we saw about renegade animals. Received this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

That voice !!

If you've ever wondered what the world might be like for a chipmunk and his pals, particularly if they were facing down some not very friendly neighbors, this book is for you. I'd say it's a bit like Over the Hedge meets Batteries Not Included with its own narratives and plenty of humor. Audio work was great and fits the overall tone nicey, including unique characters and an overall tone that helps navigate us through sudden change, rodent warfare, and plenty of good points about the cost of human ignorance on wildlife. Highly recommended!

Irreverent and amusing tale about a chipmunk with vengeance in mind

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author. I’m wavering as far as whether I enjoyed the story or would give to my kid.
The chipmunks gets into altercations with a new neighbour once they decide they want to rid themselves of this pesky chipmunk. It’s reminiscent of the movie Over the Hedge.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Paul Burt ). Interesting choice he made for the chipmunks voice. I prefer not to have a squeaky voice, but I’m still not sure this one works. His style makes me aware I’m being read to due to the emphasis on words unlike typical speech. It’s likely more his cadence and emphasis I found uncomfortable.

There are no explicit sex scenes, or excessive violence. There is occasional swearing like ‘cold day in hell’.

This sounded really cute in the description but the voice used for the chipmunk really just got to me... it's a cross between a tough mobster/gangster and add a nasal touch to it, There were times he sounded more gangster then others, kind of like he forgot to keep the accent going. I just couldn't get past it and felt the perspective given was a bit to knowledgable of some human things and then a bit too lacking in other areas. I just wasn't for me personally but I could see older elementary age kids enjoying it.

I received this audiobook free at my request and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I never really thought about life from a chipmunk’s point of view! Don’t Call Me Chip is a highly entertaining, often funny, action packed tome from precisely that point of view. I would call this book a diamond in the rough. I wasn’t sure what exactly I was getting into, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The narration and character voices by Paul Burt were outstanding. Great story!

Highly enjoyable!

A unique middle grade book.
I think it lacked imagination from a chipmunk’s perspective. He seemed to be too humanistic with understanding guns or behavior yet naive about other things.
The all out war with the neighbor kept me somewhat entertained on a rainy commute but I expected more comedy than I received.
Narration was okay for our cocky, snarky Timothy.

Neil O'Donnell's Don't Call Me Chip is colorful, creative, and humorously over the top with a triumphant ending. I particularly loved the rough and tumble voice the narrator, Paul Burt, lent to Timothy the chipmunk. It was quite unexpected to listen to a chipmunk tough guy instead of one with a squeaky voice. This story would definitely appeal to children.
