About this listen

New York Times best-seller. Wall Street Journal best-seller. USA Today best-seller.

Hunches, horse races, and heartbreak!

Ten years after Simone Payton broke his heart, all Roscoe Winston wants is a doughnut. He'd also like to forget her entirely, but that's never going to happen. Roscoe Winston remembers everything - every look, every word, every single unrequited second - and the last thing he needs is another memory of Simone.

Unfortunately, after one chance encounter, Simone keeps popping up everywhere he happens to be....

Ten years after Roscoe Winston dropped out of her life, all Simone Payton wants is to exploit him. She'd also like some answers from her former best friend about why he ghosted her, but if she never gets those answers, that's a-okay. Simone let go of the past a long time ago. Seriously, she has. She totally, totally has. She is definitely not still thinking about Roscoe. Nope. She's more than happy to forget he exists.

But first, she needs just one teeny-tiny favor....

Dr. Strange Beard is a full-length romantic comedy novel, can be listened to as a stand-alone, and is the fifth audiobook in the USA Today best-selling Winston Brothers series.

Another Great Book

Just like many other reviewers on here, I don’t understand why there was so much negativity toward this book. I had the pleasure of hearing Ms. LaVoy narrate for Simone, so I think that is a plus. Anyway, this story was more gut wrenching than the others with the two main characters in a bad situation. It made you long for their relationship to last even more. Also, it was interesting to finally ‘meet’ Daryl Winston. I was alright that the timeline jumped five years from the last book. Especially since the previous two books had concurrent timelines. Also, I know that the years skipped will be covered in the new Jennifer and Cletus series. Roscoe is such an interesting character and I like how Ms. Reid focused on his amazing memory. I think it would be awesome if she wrote a Simone and Roscoe series where the FBI uses Roscoe to help solve crimes. Furthermore, I liked Simone’s character. It was okay with me that she put herself first in her life and didn’t worry about romantic relationships. I think her and Roscoe, two super brilliant people, are meant for each other. Last, I’m not as into the Romance book genre, but Reid does a great job mixing the love stories with other exciting events, and this book highlighted this style very well. Looking forward to listening to Billy and Claire’s story next!

Another great installment

I really like these wacky and crazy Winston siblings and I'm loving how the family continues to grow. My one complaint about this book is that the book is written years later without any warning. And I have to admit that I am really confused about Billy's relationship with Dani (Roscoe's brother and the second eldest Winston brother and Simone's sister- the next two books are about Billy's relationship and I am pretty sure it's not Dani.) Otherwise, I love the characters, I loved the couple, once best friends and now friends again, even though Roscoe wants more. Initially I didn't like how Simone acted with Roscoe because she has an issue with relationships. However, I understood as more of her history came to be.

I loved seeing the whole family again and watching them interplay even in the background. Overall, I look forward to the conclusion of this series, with Billy getting his HEA. It'll make me smile, as all these books have.

I listened to the audiobook through audible escape. Chris Brinkley's drawling voice is magic- i'm really loving it and while he wasn't previously on my list of favorites, he's getting there now, now that i've had more experience listening to his great narrations. January LaVoy did a fantastic job as well, playing the characters really well overall, both male and female. This narration totally elevated the story.

Roscoe's Story!

I loved the story of Roscoe and Simone! Each of the Winston brother's books have been such a joy to read, and this is no exception. These two have known each other for their whole lives really. Something happened when they were teens and they lost touch. They get thrown back together when Simone comes back to town for work. Roscoe soon realizes that he can't avoid Simone, especially since she is following him everyday. Can they get over the hurt from their past and make a future together, when Simone is hiding the truth from Roscoe? I did have a few tears with this book, but it was worth it. So much happens in this book and it answered more of my questions. Chris Brinkley does an excellent job on narrating as usual. My only complaint, and it is a small one, was the female narration on this one. She did have quite a few mispronounced words throughout the story. Other than that I did enjoy her narration.

another amazing Winston

Roscoe Winston is amazing! My heart cried for him when I learned about his situational memory. Simone is phenomenal! Strong, independent and needs Roscoe in a way she hasn't realized. Penny Reid is a stellar author that has me bent double with laughter one moment and a melted puddle the next. Chris Brinkley simply IS the Winston's and Chloe Miller breathes life into Simone.

Dr Strange Beard

Roscoe Winston is the lead in this story. He has become a veterinarian and is the youngest Winston child. His past has come back to town and he is torn with wanting to know why she and he became estranged while in high school. Simone is home because of work. She is now an FBI agent who is on her first outside assignment. It has placed her back in her home town. These two have to overcome their past to be able to move on. Though this is about a Winston brother the story is equally divided with her side of what is going on. His father is wanting to talk to him and she is there to arrest his father. When all the dust is settled with these two have their happy ending? Enjoyed the dual narration and will get the next book in this series.

Roscoe and Simone’s story is one of my favorite in the Winston Brothers series

To think that I may not have listened to the Winston Brothers series if it wasn’t for that “sample” of Chris Brinkley’s voice. Thankful I did! The soulfulness of Roscoe’s voice and his travel back in time to give the reader a glimpse into his memories was awesome. His love for Simone was all encompassing and wistful all at once. Glad they changed Simone’s narrator, she gave Simone’s quirkiness life and she was funny. She kind of reminded me of a female lovable Sheldon Cooper of TBBT. I will be revisiting all the stories!

Gratifying

I'm not sure if Mrs. Reid has alot of black female friends or just is really thorough in her research but I love how accurate she was from the getting ready for bed routine to the fear and respect of our mothers even in adulthood. I love love love this author.
