Hunches, horse races, and heartbreak!

Ten years after Simone Payton broke his heart, all Roscoe Winston wants is a doughnut. He'd also like to forget her entirely, but that's never going to happen. Roscoe Winston remembers everything - every look, every word, every single unrequited second - and the last thing he needs is another memory of Simone.

Unfortunately, after one chance encounter, Simone keeps popping up everywhere he happens to be....

Ten years after Roscoe Winston dropped out of her life, all Simone Payton wants is to exploit him. She'd also like some answers from her former best friend about why he ghosted her, but if she never gets those answers, that's a-okay. Simone let go of the past a long time ago. Seriously, she has. She totally, totally has. She is definitely not still thinking about Roscoe. Nope. She's more than happy to forget he exists.

But first, she needs just one teeny-tiny favor....

Dr. Strange Beard is a full-length romantic comedy novel, can be listened to as a stand-alone, and is the fifth audiobook in the USA Today best-selling Winston Brothers series.

Great book!

As always, another great book from Penny Reid! Love her series, I have read all the knitting club books & working my way through the Winsten brother books.

Absolutely Wonderful

I loved the way Penny Reid and the narrators brought this story to life. I was a little sceptical because of the other reviews posted, but then I decided to still give this a try. If you have a problem reading, talking or dealing with racism then of course you would not like this book. I think Mrs. Reid did a fine job shining a light on such a dark topic. It was nice to see people being humans and standing up for others who needed them to.

We did not get as much interaction with the Winston FAM, but I did enjoy the little updates here and there. The flashbacks were easy to go back and forth with. I got to laugh, be sad and even shed a tear or two throughout this story. From now on I will read for myself and form my own opinion. Loved this second chance standalone.

I ALMOST DIDNT READ DUE TO THE COMMENTS!!

I almost didn't read this book due to the reviews. Thank God I read it anyway. I was not disappointed in this book, I did not feel like Simone's point of view was more than Roscoe. Simone's point of view was more important than Roscoe's because of the situation she was in. I loved how this book touched on serious situations that are actually happening in the world today. Being an African-American woman myself this book was everything I needed!

Love the voices!!

The voices are perfect for this story! I could believe they truly are Roscoe and Simone. They create this world and made the story come alive!! So glad I purchased the Audible for this book!

Loved it… Cute couple

Thank you Penny Reid for creating such a bold story. Addressing racism, ‘the talk’, awareness of being an interracial couple…was perfect. I hope this book opens some minds about how complex these issues are for the people who experience them. Five star read.

Love this series! Okay

Love the characters and the story. Each book in the series is standalone but ties in with the previous books. I would recommend that you start with the first one and go in order. It is well worth it!!!

Female narrator hard to listen to

I have loved the the Winston brother series and have listened to them all on audiobook. The female narrator for this book was like nails on a chalkboard for me. I had to turn her chapters way down in volume to be able to bare listening. Cringing for half of the chapters in the book, unfortunately lessened my enjoyment of the overall product. Perhaps if she wasn’t supposed to be portraying a strong character, it could be more palatable.

Great story with interesting plot

First things first, can I leave a review on all these ridiculous reviews? To everyone going on and on about hating the (sparing, plot-appropriate, still so careful not to make generalizations, accurate to real life) police commentary - we get it, you’re racist or somehow live in 2022 & have convinced yourself police harassment & violence towards minorities don’t exist. Cool! Your reviews suck and are unrelated to the quality of the book. Moving on.

The book itself was a good 4/5 for me! Roscoe’s character was really endearing and his eidetic memory was such an interesting trait (really enjoyed my google search about it!). I really appreciate how Penny Reid always shows us the inner workings of characters with different perspectives and life experiences. It keeps things interesting in this series, for sure!

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the narrator for Simone, but that’s totally a preference thing (her voice just happened to not be how I imagined it). I did appreciate that it was a different female narrator! I looove Joy Nash, but variety is nice.

With all the flashbacks, I can see how it’d be easier to read this one in print. But you get used to it after the first chapter or so!

I thought the plot was surprising at points and overall creative. I love Simone’s family and getting to know more characters in Green Valley. I also liked seeing the other Winstons from Roscoe’s perspective. Generally speaking, I’d say this is not my favorite book in the series, but good overall!
