About this listen

"A full master of the epic fantasy." (Tulsa World)

One of the world’s most acclaimed fantasists, New York Times best-selling author Robin Hobb returns to the world of her popular Tawny Man trilogy with Dragon Haven - the second book, following Dragon Keeper ("Imaginative, literate, and compassionate from first page to last" (Booklist)) in an epic adventure about the resurgence of dragons in a world that both needs and fears them.

Hobb, whose Soldier Son trilogy (Shaman’s Crossing, Forest Mage, Renegade’s Magic) has won raves from critics, fans, and peers alike, returns to the Rain Wilds with Dragon Haven, and fans of Raymond Feist, Terry Brooks, and Lois McMaster Bujold will eagerly follow.

Not her best

Do not like the speaker. Bird keeper parts are not necessary. Too much Hest and Cedric.

A solid entry

Not one of my favorites but this is a good entry in the series and moves further than I expected in a lot of areas, while the main plot sort of meanders.

As always, Hobb's protagonist is both interesting and many layered. In this case Thymara has both physical and mental changes that are interesting to see unfold. I also really love the other characters and the push and pull of their relationships feels very true to life. Many authors try to neatly arrange their characters into molds but I like that Hobb's people really feel like people.

Hobb is a magical storyteller

I love this book as much as all the others that RH has written. I do find this narrator to be somewhat disturbing. It feels like someone reading a child’s book for a kindergarten class. The book is so good, however, that it’s still very much worth a listen.

Even better the 2nd time around

I read this entire series over 10 years ago. It’s been 9 years since I read this book. But it’s even better the 2nd time around.

I have spent the last 15 years trying to find this series after reading it on my Kindle. I love this story so much I will definitely reread this again and again

Too many sexual scenes.

I really like the idea of the story but this book dwelt a lot on Cedric and I didn't enjoy his part. I felt the sexual scenes were gratuitous with him and others.

A little slow, but good

This is probably one of the first book from Hobb that I wasn't too overly excited about, but I did still like it. It just felt a little slow for me at times. Still loving the series and the world and absolutely am going to continue the series though. I really love how The Rainwild Chronicles is filling in some holes and answers from previous books.

definitely worth it if you struggled with the first book.

The first book in this series was the hardest for me to make it through. honestly it wasn't until the end where I was happy with where it was going. this book jumped back in to the adventure of things and is a beautiful little story. I'm looking forward to the last book in this trilogy. again, the first book in this trilogy is the hardest out of all of them I've read up to here. but about 12 hours and it started getting interesting. this book was great so if you made it this far and you're wondering whether or not to read this one jump into it because it's way better than the first book

The story is great!

but the narration is not great. not great at all. Robin Hobb hasn't written a story I don't like but I wish I could get a refund for the already purchased audibles and buy them from a bookstore or for kindle or something. The narrator makes me feel like I'm sitting on the floor listening to a story before nap time.

a simple, enjoyable story

after The Tawney Man trilogy, this book seems like a fresh cup of tea. nothing fancy, but good palate cleansing tea. like before, I can only listen to this narrator on 1.2 speed. I just can't otherwise. I have to mentally prepare for her voice...ugh...
