About this listen

Devon Sanders, a private investigator known for his efficiency and discretion, has no interest in getting involved with the paranormal community. Unfortunately for him, the paranormal community does have an interest in him, or at least in his secret.

Dark Waters (Book 1)

When Devon uncovers a violent murder, he knows it is not a natural crime. In order to solve this case and expose the murderer, he will have to go undercover as a wizard in the paranormal university, Quintessence. He soon discovers that his talent has more to do with supernatural forces than he ever knew.

Hungry Earth (Book 2)

When a student dies of no apparent cause, the search for a witness leads Devon to discover there are more secrets buried under Quintessence than he ever realized. In order to save the paranormal world he is now part of, he will face an enemy that can use his own power against him. Devon must rely on more than his exceptional intuition to solve this case.

Magic is elemental.

Great start to a fantasy series.

first of all, Todd Menesses is one of my favorite narrators. He makes it enjoyable to listen to and all the characters are easily definable. the story is very enjoyable and holds your attention all the way through.

Cool tale of the paranormal

Where does Elemental, Volume 1 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Among all the audiobooks? Hmm, that's hard to say. Somewhere in the middle I guess.

What did you like best about this story?

Well written and narrated. The author takes you right in and makes you believe what you know isn't real.

Which character – as performed by Todd Menesses – was your favorite?

Devon, of course.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, the whole book flowed really well and never left you waiting for something to happen.

Any additional comments?

Go ahead, you'll enjoy it.

Monotone - I couldn't stay awake

Any additional comments?

Good story, but the voice wasn't a good fit. The narrator did a great job of every character but the main one... who sounded 50 not 20s. He also had him speaking monotone? Almost like a robot. It was really weird. I couldn't take it anymore and listened on accelerated speed which helped a little.

Interesting Story, narration was distracting

What did you like best about Elemental, Volume 1? What did you like least?

Love the Wizard, Fae, Shifter stories. The narration is what I liked the least. Todd Menesses has an amazing voice, however, not every word read is the "most" important word to be emphasized.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Darwin, Henry and Devin favorites.

Would you be willing to try another one of Todd Menesses’s performances?

Don't think so

Any additional comments?

Will not get Volume 2, as I'm finishing the 2nd story in Volume 1 and I'm a a bit irritated with the narration. Not enjoying the 2nd story as much as the 1st book.

The NARRATOR was horrible!!!

The narrator made the main character sound like an idiot! Every sentence ended with the same ridiculous cadence and inflection - always wrong. He also made him sound middle aged instead of a young man. I found myself stopping to call Menesses an idiot and irritating. The story was good but Rain Oxford has got to change who reads his next book.
Sheesh - it was a relief when it ended.

Frustrating narration

Well this is a weird one. I’d like to be able to rate it very high, because the story was fun. But, the narrator was very distracting. He did an excellent job with all the characters, even the main character’s voice was very good, but the internal dialogue of the main character was very weird. It was like listening to a movie trailer. It was over dramatized and then sometimes it was just very dull. My mind would wonder. I had a hard time staying focused. I think this book would be better read on my Kindle, than as an audiobook

Good Book, Rotten Reader

This story is actually quite good, compelling in fact. But the reader was so bad, it was difficult to get through the book. He emphasized every sentence, so the syntax was consistently off. Very distracting, really detracted from the listening experience.
