About this listen

When a college student takes a shortcut through the woods, he discovers a strange new world, in this Melody of Mana prequel series.

Heading home after a long day of classes, tech student Justin takes a little-used path through the woods. But when he stumbles unexpectedly, he rolls downhill and into the challenge of a lifetime. Faced with exotic, glowing plants he's never seen before and a luminescent pool of crystal-blue water that exerts a frightening pull over him, he's literally reborn in a rough, raw landscape—in a time before history began . . .

Reduced to a helpless child but somehow retaining his adult memories, Elian—as he's now known—must come to know the family that has claimed him, all the while learning a strange new language and the culture of this foreign land, where he must survive until he can attempt to return home. But most importantly, he must master the light that surrounds him, an exhilarating magic called mana that will shape his future, if he'll only grow up.

Through concentrated apprenticeship and some calamitous mistakes, Elian will finally become a young man again. And just in time to help his people face a dangerous force that threatens their small kingdom.

The first volume of the hit progression-fantasy series—with almost 300,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Definitely worth the credit

I am a fan of the Melody of Magic series and because we met future Justin in it and he was kind of a depressed deadbeat I was not sure about this book. With that said it was good, and as I said in the title definitely worth the credit.

Good start

Pretty decent. I will likely get the next, but I’m thinking it’s going to be constantly new characters.

Great book

Another great series from one of my favourite offer. I really love that. We are following around Justin a wizard this time, but it is also a bit weird that I know what will happen in the end because of their history lessons in the other series.. I would still advocate for the offer to create a discord or Patreon I think would be a great idea for fans to follow more closely

Stone age to... ?

How far could one mordern man push society forward if transported back in time? That's a question we all are familiar with, and in this book we see just this play out but with some aid of magic and on a planet where elf's are the dominant sapiant race. The book was so good I listened to it cover to cover in one day!

Best Spin-off Story I've Read in a Long Time

Usually, spin-offs tend to lack the magic of the original. But this one keeps everything I liked from melody of mana, the world building, close personal character focus, and of course an earnest love for the world and it's magic. Meanwhile, we get to see Justin, a mysterious character even after we meet him in MoM, slowly get fleshed out. We see the parts of him in embryo that we know will lead down to such terrible places, but start off so positives. Like his desire to help his people technologically, trying to subtly nudge them down a path he approves of. At several points he even contemplates forcing changes onto society like the end of slavery. In the end, I was left feeling like I couldn’t wait to see where his character goes, and what happens to the world when he's truly and irrevocably challenged.

An interesting story

This was a nice listen. I like the narrator and he doesn't detract from the story. I only have a problem with the last 20-30% of the book. The whole boy/man mentality comes out weird and odd times. Dude should know how to argue using logic or at least get people to understand his viewpoint. I look forward to the next book!

Very fun listen

Good story about a guy from our world waking up as someone else in a new world and bringing our tech to it. Highly recommend you pick it up.

3.5 stars

Nothing really new here so far. If you’ve read any other stories about being reborn as a baby into a magical world, you will be very familiar with the story. The protagonist is smart, for the most part, but not a genius. People treat him well for being special, because he is. But they don’t throw out common sense to agree with everything he wants.

There isn’t really an antagonist yet. Just a slice of life type of story where we get to see a kid literally reinvent the wheel.

Mid Grade

This story was very average and just like a thousand other isekai stories. While it was not bad, the writing is very plain and straightforward so there is nothing that makes this at all interesting. When you add in the hamfisted way the turning point was contrived, with a normally hyper vigilant elder basically leaving a power hungry lunatic to his own devices, it becomes even more disappointing. I enjoy the Melody of Mana series, but this book left me asking why? Why was it made? Why should I care? Just why? I guess if you are a completionist and want to read this prequel, then maybe you should but otherwise I would not waste your time or money.
